“What about your vessel? Does it ever require sustenance, or is your presence in the body enough to keep it going?” To his knowledge, the vessels didn’t need to eat, or even sleep, but most of the people who had gotten a chance to speak to an angel were too busy doing things like saving the world to write down their findings. And he didn’t expect that people like the Winchesters had even thought to ask in the first place. “That’s good. Do different foods taste different when you notice every molecule, or is everything mostly the same? They start to get predictable the longer you spend with them.” The more times you saw empires crumble and then rebuild, the same mistakes repeated over and over. “That’s not always a bad thing. I’ve started predicting how human wars will end. Four times out of five I’m right.”

“Well goodie for you.” It was hard not to roll her eyes but she was working on the whole…pleasantries thing. At least she hadn’t stabbed anyone in a while. Not anyone who didn’t deserve it anyways and that made her a certified ‘good guy’ if she was going by the Winchester standard. Her eyes narrowed slightly as he sighed, how old was he? Was he a sparkly vampire? If she cut him, would he bleed? “Forget Twilight, if you want vampires then you want True Blood. Like I said, sex sells and for some reason teaming that with real Southern accents just gets everyone’s motors going. You could gift them on to someone special. Mm… If you knew anyone in town… Favourite whats? Erotic novels? Aren’t you at least supposed to ask a girl to dinner first?” She clicked her tongue, shaking her head before adding, “I guess your manners were tied to the century.”

“True Blood? That’s an HBO show, right? Was that the one with Anna Paquin, or was she in Bitten?” Most of the time supernatural movies and TV didn’t do it for him. It was fun to watch when you weren’t living it, but Diego tended to encounter the same problem doctors had while watching medical shows: an inability to suspend his disbelief because they got the facts so wrong. “I think the twang is a big sell in a lot of places. Americans love accents, you know, even ones from their own country. Well, I was thinking more along the lines of Vampire Novels, but you could take it that way if you want. I probably wont be heading to the library to check out any of your suggestions, but the time is appreciated.” He paused, head tilting a little to the side. “I’m sorry, what?”

the angel listened to his words, narrowing her eyes as she attempted to memorize it all. “ it does sound like fun. “ and amelia was fairly certain that everyone could use a good amount of it. “ but wait… does that mean it’s socially acceptable to buy a whole lot of candy? people tend to give me weird looks when i do that for no obvious reason at all. “ 

“It can be a lot of fun. And you get to see all the costumes the kids come up with it. Halloween can be great.” He nodded. “Absolutely. Nobody will judge if you buy a lot of candy in October. I mean, I don’t think they should judge at any time of the year, but Halloween is a free pass.”

*· ☆,.- “Three…” the blonde girl muttered, feeling her head pouding and the world around her slightly spinning as she sat up. “There isn’t any blood though, so…. that is good, right?”

“Okay, that’s good. You got that right. You still seem a little shaky, though. You should probably stay sitting for a minute.” He advised. “Well, it depends. In some cases, the more a head injury bleeds, the better. I think you’re okay here, though. Just try not to take any more falls, alright?”

“ okay. i will admit it. i need help. “ the angel sighed. “ i don’t know much about halloween, but i don’t want my house to get egged and i heard that’s a thing. what do i need to do to keep that from happening? “

“You have to buy candy. Like, a lot of candy. Probably too much candy, but that’s okay, because you eat whatever’s left over. And when someone knocks on your door on halloween--or rings the doorbell--you give them some candy. It’s kind of a fun tradition.” One of the few he felt had actually improved over the years.

“Of course, but as a basic concept, that is what it does. So you need to eat to live? I can’t imagine having that kind of dependency on something. Me? I taste everything. Every molecule, every atom. It’s a strange sensation, but my taste buds are too sensitive to taste like a human. Can’t say I’ve ever eaten a chicken, but I have heard that everything tastes like them.”

“You’re right, it does seem kind of silly. Mostly, yes. Liquid is also pretty important, but food is arguably more so. Everything sounds awful. I probably wouldn’t even bother eating, if that was what I tasted. Is it actually...good--based on your standards of good, of course--or just interesting and new? I don’t always agree, but it’s quite the joke humans have.”

“It has been quite awhile, but I suppose I could take your word for it.” It didn’t seem like he had changed, at least, which was enough for Annabell. He was still her friend, so long as he still respected her the way most men didn’t. “Lord knows I am honest. Literally.” she said with a laugh. It was funny because it was more true than he realized. “We have the time now, do we not? Apparently you are immortal and I at least live to see another day.” It was odd, feeling so comfortable that she could joke about being revived, though she did not want to revisit her death. She laughed again, tossing her head back. “Obdurate. Truer words have never been spoken.”

“You won’t have to take my word, I’ll prove it.” He meant that. She was his friend, regardless of how many years had passed for him, and he was going to be there for her. Probably to the point of annoyance, since he hadn’t really met anyone else in town yet, and Verónica was proving more difficult to find than he’d expected. “You won’t be able to get rid of me.” He joked. “Although I trust that you will tell me if I start to bother you, being so honest, and all. I have more time than I know what to do with, so I’m certain I could spare a few moments from watching Netflix to keep you company.”

*· ☆,.- Daisy felt pretty embarssed, though, that did not mean it did not hurt. She whimpered and opened her eyes a little when the guy spoke, still not daring to move.” “Mostly my pride, but… ouch….” she touched the back of her head and already felt a bump growing there.

“Okay, maybe you should stay sitting. How many fingers am I holding up?” He asked her, crouching in front of her and holding up three fingers in front of her face. “I’m no doctor, but I do know that head injuries can be pretty bad. I’ve watched enough Grey’s Anatomy to understand that.”

“Smart, smart boy. Garlic bread? With cheese? Momentarily murderous… No survivors. A channel 5 worthy massacre at most.” She drifted then before meeting his eye, her smile widening. “I feel like I know you. Have we met?”

“Alright, making a note to never stand between you and buffet table. Yep, sounds about right. With a threat like that, you could probably swing free bread for life at the local corner store.” Diego shook his head. “I don’t think so. I’ve never been here before.”

“Food is so… unusual. Incredible how important it is to the survival of humans, and animals, but how strange it is for substances to just pass right through your bodies. Fascinating, even. I wish I could experience it as you do.”

“Well there’s more science involved than that, but I guess it does essentially pass right through. But it also keeps most sentient beings alive, so I’m pretty grateful. What do you taste when you eat? Let me guess, everything tastes like chicken? Okay, that a bad joke to make to someone who doesn’t probably know what chicken tastes like.”

“You are the one that has had time to change, not myself. Though I am sure you are well aware that I have no intention to change that part about myself.” She was not afraid to admit that she needed help, not around Diego, but she also knew that could wait for another time. For her, it had only been a month or two since she had seen her friend, but for Diego it had been centuries. Their reunion was much more important. After all, hadn’t Annabell survived thus far? “Hmm, you are right, insufferable was a poor word choice on my behalf. I do apologize, my tutoring was subpar for most of my life.” That was something he already knew, but it was said more in jest over anything else. “Perhaps… inconceivable?”

“You’ve got some good points there, I’ll admit. But I promise I haven’t changed that much. I was already pretty old when I met you, if I was going to change, I’m sure it would have happened before then. Good. The world needs more honest people.” It needed a whole lot more than that, but she didn’t need to be scared by that just yet. “If only we’d had more time to remedy that. I suppose I should just be glad to hear that you remember words like insufferable. That shows I wasn’t completely useless as a teacher.” It was funny the way his speech pattern started to fall back into more formal tendencies, mimicking her own tone, without him even realizing. “Inconceivable? I’ll accept that. Provided you take obdurante for yourself.”

“Not really. There’s still a lot I haven’t seen and a lot I haven’t done. But I guess things do get a little….stale after a while. The end of the world coming every few years has shaken things up, though.”

What makes you think that Verónica didn't just leave you?

“If she did, I think I still deserve an explanation. And maybe a chance to fix things.”

What are you gonna do when you find your girlfriend?

“Apologize for whatever happened. She didn’t just disappear for no reason, I’m sure it won’t hurt to let her know I’m sorry.”

“I do not like it, but I have already started to learn some of the differences with the language.” She was starting to adjust, at least a little, but she didn’t want to get even close to the technology aspect of this world. And through it all… she was pleased to see a familiar face that she actually got along with. Even if he was something different, she wasn’t scared of him. “A Phoenix. That would explain the insufferable and extensive amount of knowledge that you hold.”

“I see you’re still as stubborn as ever.” A good trait in a companion, and part of the reason Diego had been so drawn to her when they first met. “I’m sure it’s partly the learning curve. Everything moves a hundred times faster now.” He often forgot to take a step back and really think about the progress the world had made--for better or worse--but to someone unaccustomed it must be like stepping into Narnia. “A Phoenix.” He confirmed. “Insufferable? I seem to remember somebody seeking me out to share that knowledge with her. But sure, say what you must. I’ve definitely had a few more years than the average person to gather learn things.”

*· ☆,.- Before she could even realize what was happening, Daisy was already laying flat on her back, pain shooting through her body and up her spine. “Ouch….” the blonde girl whined while just continuing to lay there for a moment. Praying no one saw how she’d fell and therefore made a total fool out of herself again.

“--Are you okay?” Diego offered a hand to help the woman up. “That looked like a nasty fall. Does anything hurt?” There was a hospital in town, but they were no doubt overstuffed with patients already. Plus Diego didn’t know where it was.

“Oh my god,” ha! God. “These are all so good. Have you tried these? They’re… Well, not as delicious as some things buuuut—- Get your own though. I will kill you over this bread alone.” She smiled before letting out a very pleasant and very loud laugh. “Kidding!”

“Your mouth says you’re kidding, but your eyes say you mean it. So I’m going to stick to not taking your bread, thanks. Seems better for everyone’s health. If you get this enthusiastic about regular bread, I’d hate to see what you’d do over a piece of garlic bread.”
