You know what would have been kind of cute to add to the finale?
If they were reading Good Omens in the garden of their cottage. Anthony is a writer. He could have written their story from unrealized, long dormant memories. Saying he's inspired by his own, much shorter story with Asa to write about two beings who, no matter what, against all odds, find each other and endure.
I'm sure people would still be upset about how things went, but I think keeping Aziraphale and Crowley's story alive in this reality, would have been meaningful and added to the poetic end I think they were going for. Imagine if the last lines of Good Omens were also the first as they read...
"It was a nice day. All the days had been nice."
