You got out of bed today.
You did your dishes or dirty laundry.
You finished some homework you’ve been putting off.
You cleaned up around your home/apartment/dorm etc.
You resisted temptation in any form.
You found a reason to smile.
Little victories are worth celebrating!!
“While it sounds simple enough, happiness truly begins with you, & in order to cultivate that you have to figure out what happiness feels like for you. What brings you the most authentic joy? What genuinely makes you happy? Once you figure out what happiness feels like to you, then you must dedicate the effort to making it a priority through simple tasks that make you feel the most joy. It can be watching your favorite movie, washing your clothes, going for a walk, traveling, having great conversation, listening to your favorite music, laughing or even being kind to others. It can one of those things or it could be all of those things, no matter what it is, it is your job to do the things that bring you joy, so that you can experience the happiness that best fits you…”—New post now LIVE! This week’s post, while accompanied by a vision of my living out one of my personal joys (being foolish 🙃), is about curating your own happiness. What brings you your most authentic joy? [11/29/18] It’s no secret the kind of year I’ve had... I was pushed to limits far beyond my control over the last 370-something days & honestly did not think I’d live to survive it. This year, I learned I’m not perfect by any means & don’t need to be. Some boy played the absolute shit out of me, dealt w/ a teenage trauma that came back to haunt me as an adult, my car was stolen & then I lost a job I actually liked only to be setback again financially another 2-3 months. I missed many a brunch, event, girls night & outing. I lost someone very near & dear to my family, I lost my healthcare & even cried in the EBT office. Faith being on E is an absolute understatement for the year I’ve had, definitely contemplated if death would be easier than life having its perpetual foot on my neck. But even in those moments of what felt like unrelenting pain, I came to develop a greater sense of self, gratitude & joy unlike anything I ever felt in my life & w/o any of those things I probably wouldn’t have gotten to this space. I stumbled into 26 like a wino at 2:37 on a random Thursday afternoon , but it showed me what I was truly made of. I made the conscious decision to walk into this year w/ a renewed sense of faith, purpose & above all else, joy! I take Year 26 for what it was, just a hazing process for the blessings to come, & 27 is off to a great start 🙌🏿🎉✨ #HappyBirthdayDij ▪️📸: @awkwardcatdaddy https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq31o1ZA6TP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=nx3rxwql0f9e
The moment I finally realized my happiness was not contingent upon that of others, was the moment I got real about owning my joy & creating it for myself when I could—New blog post coming soon 😁💛😊✨▪️📸: @_amiles ♥️ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq1Gx5ZAxlN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xt4n8wbj0rh5
“For a while, I failed to realize I stopped taking the time to look inward to understand what happiness looked like for me. I had stopped doing the work to make my happiness a priority, & began to think that other people, places, and/or things were supposed to provide me w/ that. But happiness, as it turns out, is just a personally tailored experience we must do the work ourselves to design…”—New blog post coming soon 😁💛😊✨▪️📸: @_amiles ♥️ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqn_OyDAVof/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1q5dc6u5ody5o
“Emotional intelligence is essential to understanding what we need in terms of support & how we connect to others, without it we’re unable to form personal bonds or authentic relationships with others. Emotional intelligence is at the basis of any interaction whether it’s casual, formal, familial, romantic or platonic—Take the time to understand that emotion is an essential part of who we are & utilize it as a building tool rather than a burden or weakness. Use it to strengthen your relationships as well as yourself. Emotion is valid & needs to recognized as such in order to better understand who we are, what we feel, & what we may need… ”—New post now LIVE! This week’s post discusses the importance of emotional intelligence & how we inadvertently shortchange ourselves when denying the presence of our emotions. “I woke up one day & started to realize that my reminders had turned into ‘emotional crutches’ & I had burdened myself w/ things I could not change. I finally understood that all I could control was how I moved & my reactions to things. Not every moment can be recreated, not everybody deserves to stay (or come back), not every feeling can be felt again, & not everything can be undone, but I had to learn how to acknowledge & accept things not only as they came, but as they went. While I am still learning & certainly don’t have all the answers (Fun Fact: I actively never know what I am doing most of the time 😂), I know it’s okay to remember who we once were, what was once felt, and what once was…”—New post now LIVE! House on Mango Street was my first real introduction to critical reading & thinking… Of course, it’s only fitting that I’d find the same book 15 years later at a event while spending my summer teaching reading to middle school students… S/o to my 7th grade diorama of Esperanza’s House 🏠 in Chapter 1, did anyone else read HOMS? 📖📚♥️🧠💭✨
Thoughts on doing most of the emotional labor in the relationship?
It’s exhausting. 0/10. Wouldn’t recommend.
me, the motherfucker with over 50 abandoned works in progress: i have another idea
your relationship is a reflection of you, and how you view your worth. who you allow into your life, who you allow to occupy space, demonstrates how you value your time, effort, and love.
ask yourself
is this a relationship i’m proud of? does this make me happy? do i feel valued? am i compromising who i am or my values for this relationship? do i feel full? does loving this person make me feel full, or exhausted?
