THE WEEKLY CHALLENGE!

So in a recent Skype conversation I got the idea for yet another ridiculous animation challenge. After seeing what people can do with just a few hours - and lamenting the lack of content lately - we came up with The Weekly Challenge!

I was supposed to announce this way earlier so people would have more time to prepare, but I still need to make an official post for it anyway. So then, let me explain…

The goal of the weekly challenge is to - starting the week of the 4th - release an episode of a series every week until the end of the year for a total of thirteen episodes. The goal of the challenge is to complete an entire season of a show between now and the end of the year.

Naturally we aren’t expecting top notch art and animation, but you should still put as much effort into each episode as you have time for. This should also be a serious (as in NOT troll or parody) production. The goal here is to tell an entire story, so you’ll want to make sure the story is handled well.

The rules are very lax since this is a friendly challenge. You should release an episode once a week between 12am Sunday and 11:59pm Saturday. While not required, it’s preferred that you stick to a specific day for releasing. There’s no required length, but each episode should feel like a complete episode. Keep in mind that these are just guidelines, so you can bend or break them as you see fit - ultimately the whole challenge is for fun.

On Fanime

There’s a lot going on right now so I thought why not add in more ingredients to the pot everybody’s stirring? Won’t that be fun.

Overall, being in the fanime community has done way more good for me than anything else. It help me discover who I am and my passions, helps me develop as an artist and even connected me with my boyfriend. However, I do receive a lot of stress from fanimation and the community, which is why I’d like to make this post.

The community has a habit of idolizing certain members and ignoring others. To be honest, we all know who I’m talking about, and it is to no fault of said idolized or ignored members. all of them produce good content and are important to the community. I just think it’s unfair that some member can cover an entire wall with fanart and yet member who’ve been in the community for years only have gotten one or two. Recently, the community banded together to create a gift video for Evan. It was an amazing product that I was very happy to work on, but what troubled me what that when I suggested we do one for another fanime what was immediately suggested was another one of Evan’s fanime. I’m very happy that Evan was able to receive such a gift, because he‘s a good guy, but it’s time for somebody else to get a gift. The same five people shouldn’t be the only ones we turn our attention to, we need to make sure that everybody feel they they’re welcome and that they belong in the community. A few people have been doing their best to make sure this happens, and I think you know who they are so I won’t name names, but a feel like as a whole we can do better.

On the topic of offending people and trolls, lately, the fanime community has gotten quite afraid of offending people. I feel like this is because we’ve had the wrong type of attitude towards people who’ve offended us. I admit to being guilty of it myself, especially when it comes to lbtqa+ issues, It’s a really hard subject to deal with because you need to make sure you’re not to harsh with the other party but at the same time firm enough that you keep yourself safe.

The key word is safety.

Would what I’m saying or portraying harm the other person?  this goes for both avoiding saying offensive things and HOW YOU REACT TO BEING OFFENDED

In no matter how badly another person’s words hurt you, you do not have the right to harm them or anybody else back. You can protect yourself without harassing or dehumanizing others, and if you do not know how to  there are many people in the community who are willing to help.

Sorry for being a preachy grandpa, overall, i love the community, which is the only reason i get so heated. please understand.
