POV: Ethel brings you a leaf
i learned that in August 2014 Women’s Voices for the Earth commissioned testing of four types of Always menstrual pads, manufactured by Procter & Gamble. The certified laboratory STAT Analysis Corporation analyzed the products for volatile organic compound.
“The results of the testing indicate that both scented and unscented Always pads emit toxic chemicals, including chemicals identified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the State of California Environmental Protection Agency as carcinogens, and reproductive and developmental toxins. None of these chemicals are disclosed on the product by the manufacturer.” (x)
For the uninitiated, you can make or buy cotton cloth pads for about as much as you would pay for a 10 pack of disposable ones, and you can reuse them for years and years! They often go by the name “luna pads” or “moon pads”. Here’s a tutorial/pattern if you want to make your own!
I know it sounds kinda gross from an outside perspective to wear re-useable pads but… you wash them! They’re clean! You don’t throw out a shirt because you got sauce on it, right?
If you make your own, you can also personalize them for how heavy your flow is / whatever kinds of fabrics you like / whatever shape fits best! Plus, they won’t give you cancer, so that’s a bonus.
Heat index was 110 degrees so we offered him a cold drink. He went for a full body soak instead

A caretaker comforting his cheetah companions when they get nervous during the night
(Source)
So the actual source on this is the youtube channel of Dolph C. Volker, a nature photographer that is also a long-time volunteer at the Cheetah Experience Breeding Centre in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He was experimenting in this video to find out how cheetahs preferred to sleep/what they prefer to sleep on (the answer was: a warm body).
I want to add that this care center seems to do a lot toward conserving land and protecting the cheetah species, but they also work with other species including plenty of big cats, meercats, wolves, bat-eared foxes, and a couple of ungulates. They have what looks like a great enrichment program, eager volunteers, and good veterinary care for everyone.
They also make most of their money interacting with the public for visitation and education, and due to COVID19, they have had to close their doors to visitors at all. This means that they’re facing some tough times financially. They have an amazon wishlist if you prefer to purchase something directly, but they also have adoption packages (to sponsor an animal) and a general donations area that can be for any amount.

🐟🥧🐈 Ghibli foods by Choki
I love the foods in anime; most notably in Ghibli movies. It looks so delish…much better than food looks in real life for sure. You can almost feel the steam rising up from the food, can almost smell the savory scents, and almost taste the delectable complex flavors. It’s an ASMR experience, especially when you can hear the slopping and sizzling of the food being cooked, and the full robust sounds of liquid being poured.
I’ve always wanted to try their foods out in real life. I wonder if there is a cookbook for Ghibli cuisine 🤔 But there’s always Liziqi videos (God, I love that woman ❤️) But for now, this real life adaptation of the Herring Pie from Kiki’s Delivery Service is sensational to see in reality!
