how to learn new content and never forget it
save this for your next academic year and finals, and it’ll save your grades and time.
1. whenever you read a paragraph with new content, close the book/look away and ask yourself: “what have i just learned?” explaining the concept to yourself right away and asking follow-up questions will change the way you retain new material forever.
2. at first, it’ll be daunting, and it’ll be pretty hard to actually bring yourself to do this. trust me, it’ll be worth it - as this is scientifically proven one of the most effective study techniques.
3. to try this out, set yourself a timer for how long you estimate learning a concept might take. now take away 20% from that estimate. you won’t be able to reach this goal with basic highlighting and re-reading techniques - but with active recall, you will.
4. once you’ve understood the concept, use spaced repetition systems like anki flashcards to force yourself to retrieve this information in a set period of time. this way, your brain will always be reminded of this concept before it could possibly forget it.
5. teach it to others as much as you can. as with the old wisdom “see one, do one, teach one”, one of the only guarantees you’ve really gotten something is when you can effectively teach it.
hope these are helpful for you!!

22.10.17 // this week’s bullet journal spread. couldn’t really do my usual scrapbook-y style bc i was busy this week, but i did set aside some time to paint 🎨 the quote is from the song Afterlife by Nothing But Thieves. also ft my physics notes for a test this tuesday (wml!)
ancient greek notes and current reads
28.8.17 10:06 PM // some photos from a bullet journal shoot I did a couple days ago. Clockwise from top left: 1. timetable spread inspired by Amanda Rach Lee, + test tracker which helps me track my progress on studying and doing tests. 2. expenses log + bullet journal spread for last week, inspired by @j-christabel 3. essentials for bullet journalling last week. not a lot, but enough. p.s. that’s actually a warm yellow mildliner (idk looks orange??)
hope y'all have a great week! good luck for the first day of school (if any of you haven’t started yet). september printables and wallpapers 90% ready, so look out for them 🌼
12/14/18 || yesterday i got my first rejection but i think i’ll be okay
a gentle reminder that you just need to make things a tiny bit better for your future self. reading one page, writing one sentence, getting half of a task done, it’s still good.
this year is going to be filled with new beginnings
hey guys, here are some pictures of today’s morning study session. this year (for my degree in chinese studies) we haven’t done much written chinese, we focused ourselves more on chinese history, literature, oral and classic chinese, that’s why I’ve decided to study it on my own during my holidays! I’m planning to study 2 lessons every day (text, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and listening). so far, I’m doing an amazing job, I learnt 85 words today! I’m now going to read a chinese contemporary mini-story using my book “graded chinese reader 500 words” ☕ have a nice productive day!

I found a tool that let’s you figure out whether men are dominating the conversation or not.
Seriously that’s all it does. I’m feeling cheeky today, so I thought I’d share.
welp, i’ll be using this in every meeting i attend
So I work at a pretty progressive company so at t the last meeting I brought a click counter and I clicked it every time a man cut someone off. I used a pen pad to keep track of the women cutting someone off. Because it happened twice. Both times after they’d been cut off and were trying to finish a sentence. Eventually the men noticed the clicking and would pause and look around. At the end of the meeting I told them the results. In a one hour meeting men had cut someone off a total of 236 times. Two hundred and thirty six.
exam is in 7 hours. last push.
here’s my index for my bullet journal so far. if you’d like to see me setting up all of these spreads, check out my 2020 plan with me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ posted on Instagram - https://ift.tt/2QGpxPa

a small guide on how i battle my essays! (click on an image to view it clearer)
(keep in mind: i’m an english major so a majority of my essays are literature-focused!)
these are just some of the methods i want to share that work for me when i write my innumerable amount of essays! i’m definitely a huge planner so it’s no secret that i spend a lot of time on an essay. if you’re a deadline fighter, these tips might not necessarily be helpful (especially the handwriting one). but i hope this gives you an insight on how i write my essays! 🌈
