Gone With The Wind (1939)
Happy Birthday Rita Hayworth!
Born Margarita Carmen Cansino on October 17, 1918
“Every man I knew went to bed with Gilda and woke up with me.”
Liza Minnelli, 1969.
I honestly believe that the SNL skit Liza Minnelli tries to turn off a lamp is the height of contemporary absurdist humor. By no right should this have ever been an SNL skit. I cannot even grasp the logic that must have transpired in the writer’s room that week when someone pitched “What if Liza Minnelli and Jonah Hill were late to a production Cats because Liza couldn’t turn off her many lamps?” Don’t get me wrong, this is absolutely brilliant. They have an ingenious clock putting pressure on the scene: the start of the first act of Cats. Then they introduce the most absurd obstacle that I have ever witnessed in modern day comedy–a character cannot turn off lamp. Not just because they couldn’t figure out the technology. Liza very clearly demonstrated immense knowledge of the various switches one could expect to find on a lamp. But because she is compelled by some off screen music to dance through her entire I DON’T KNOW thoguht process??? But the music doesn’t exist offstage. It’s part of that world. They both hear it. But there’s also no rush to leave. BUT THEY STILL MISS THE SHOW AFTER THREE MINUTES OF FUCKING WIYH A LAMP.
AND WHO THE FUCK IS JOHNA HILL SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING?? WHO is his character?
How do we as artists move forward? We’ve peaked.

I think a very revealing moment on Queer Eye was when Tan said to the man they were making over: “I look good for my husband, what are you doing to keep her?” And it like. Absolutely astounded, dumbfounded this man that he should possibly be doing anything for his wife other than merely Exist as her husband
Queer Eye is redefining masculinity one Georgian slacker at a time and I am HERE for it

WHY’D YALL LEAVE OUT THE BEST ONE?
Can’t forget this gem.
So sweet
I don’t know if you’ve actually seen this episode, but Pam invites the entire office to her art show that she’s been gearing up for for a really long time. Nobody shows up except for Oscar and his partner (and they critique her work, calling her “lacking in courage” among other things, not realizing she is standing right behind them) and then Michael. And Michael is the only one who tells her she is great just for putting herself out there, and the only one who places value on what she’s done, and he points out all the little details she got right and notices absolutely every bit of hard work she put into it. And then treats Pam like the artist she is by not just paying her for her art, but displaying it where literally everyone can see it.
It’s one of my favorite episodes.
So, my dad is the boss at his job, and when I was growing up watching the office, I always imagine my goofy ass dad acting like Michael Scott at work (not the case but w/e). My dad was and has always been pretty emotionally distant, and so this episode hit home so hard. Because Pam’s reaction to finally being validated and having someone tell her they’re proud of her (someone who rarely shows these tender moments with such poignancy no less) was so relatable and heart-warming.
