Chinese soldiers help civilians evacuate Liuchow (Liuzhou) ahead of the advancing enemy Imperial Japanese Army. Liuchow was the site of Liuchow Airfield used by Nationalist Chinese and United States Army Air Forces. It was captured by the Japanese on 7 November 1944 during the Battle of Guilin- Liuchow which was the third of the three-part Battle of Henan-Hunan-Guangxi, also known as Operation Ichigo. As part of the operation, a major aim of the Japanese during this attack was to connect the pieces of Japanese-held territory, and also, to destroy airbases in the area which were housing United States Army Air Forces aircraft. The city was retaken by Chinese Nationalist forces on 30 June 1945. Liuchow (Liuzhou), Guangxi, Republic of China (now, People’s Republic of China). November 1944.
