While I’m here for once I should probably mention something I never said before about why I adore this fic
The reason I chose for the reader to be a vampire is not only cuz I didn’t want the reader and Isaac to have a weird age gap— it’s because I loved the idea of a tragic romance between someone who has all the time in the world falling in love for someone who was destined to have almost no time at all.
A boy whose heart was cursed to never beat properly and ultimately stop beating young with a girl whose heart could last many millennia.
A girl whose life had grown dull and monotonous meeting a boy whose mind was singular, the type of genius that could only be found once every generation.
Both enamored by something that was doomed to fail them.
That boy was technically only a fraction of her life, barely even a chapter, while she was once the end of his story considering he died in her arms.
when one situationship changes the trajectory of your life
Anyways that’s all, doubt anyone will read this it’s been months since I’ve actually returned to this story

Her hand swiped through the condensation fogging the medicine cabinet mirror, clearing it to see herself better. The bathroom was warm and steamy after her nightly, long, hot shower. She found that heating her body thoroughly right before climbing into the cool sheets of her bed, helped keep the bitter chill of the winter night at bay. The downside was that the scorching hot showers stripped her skin of the essential oils it needed to stay soft and supple.
She peered at her reflection, studying her face. The small lines that curved under her eyes, the dry patches of skin on her cheeks matched the flaky skin of her arms, legs, and hands. When was the last time she did some proper skin care? 'He's always watching... waiting' a shiver jolted through her, the idea both creepy and somehow titillating at the same time.
Hanging her towel up, she slipped on a plain cotton camisole and shorts set. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was more revealing than anything else she'd ever worn around him. 'He'd lose his mind with all this exposed skin.' She thought, biting her lower lip imagining his reaction as she wrapped her hair with a dry towel. 'Better be careful'
Gathering up her laundry and hugging it to her, she clicked the bathroom door open a crack, stuck her head out and noted that the hallway was surprisingly vacant. 'Maybe he put himself to bed. Now's my chance!' As quiet as a church mouse, she tip-toed to her room, carefully latching her door shut, before flipping on the lights.
"Took you long enough."
Her back thumped against the bedroom door, armload of clothing dropping to the floor as she clutched her chest in a startled panic. "WHAT THE HELL BRAHMS!?" She blurted out loudly, more than a hint of annoyance in her words.
Brahms lay shirtless in her bed, a pair of old striped pajama pants tied loosely at his waist, looking ever like a polite little boy waiting for his bedtime story and good night kiss.
"Shouldn't you be in your own bed?" She huffed, gathering her dropped garments and stuffing them into a basket in the corner. "Like you promised." She curtly added on.
"I just wanted to spend a little more time with you." He pouted giving her large puppy dog eyes and wiggling his feet under the covers at the end of the bed. She rolled her eyes and snagged a pouch from off her dresser. Sitting on the other side of the bed, she chose to ignore his comment. Facing her back to him she unzipped the satchel and pulled out a small bottle then proceeded to squirt a mound of white lotion into her palm, rubbing it between her hands, and working it up her arms. "Well, once I'm done with this, I'M going to sleep, so you have maybe five more minutes."
Curious as to what she was doing, Brahms leaned forward to get a closer look. A delicate floral scent wafted over to him as she busied herself with massaging the lotion into the dry patches on her face. Carefully, he crawled over to her side of the bed and picked up the bottle, turning it over in his hand. She angled herself towards him, drawing one leg up onto the bed to rub the cream over her calf.
"You like it? It's made with cocoa butter and aloe and a bunch of other vitamins n' stuff. Great for dry winter skin."
He nodded slowly, dropping the bottle in exchange for her arm. His rough fingertips gliding over where she had applied the moisturizer. "You're so soft." The words came out in his lower resonance. Goosebumps rose up her arm as he pulled it closer to his masked face, breathing in the scent.
"W-well... yeah... girls tend to be." She sputtered, a nervous laugh punctuating her answer. Closing his eyes, he nuzzled her arm to his porcelain cheek, fingers still gliding up and over her bare shoulder. The lips of the mask pursued his wandering digits, a soft masculine grumble vibrating in the back of his throat. Opening his eyes, he locked in on her lips, steadily pulling her towards him. "Ki-"
"Y-you know...skin care isn't just for girls." She flustered, cutting him off and pulling her arm from him. She snatched up the bottle, flicking it open to get another mound of goo. "Here..." She motioned him to the floor. "Sit there, I can reach you better." Brahms held a beat, his eyes searching hers a moment before obediently slinking to the floor. He nestled himself snugly between her dangling legs, sitting up tall and proper. Rubbing the lotion in her hands, she leaned forward and placed both palms onto his shoulders. He flinched slightly from the cooling sensation but instantly melted back against her when her hands worked his muscles.
"You have a hunch, you know that?" She kneaded his shoulders all the way up to the small knot at the base of his neck. His head drooped to one side, a more guttural groan rumbling out now. "Probably from stooping over to walk around in the walls all the time." She pressed her thumbs hard into the hunch, working the tension out bit by bit.
She fell quiet, remembering the exes in her past that she loved pampering in little ways like this. The massages, cooking meals, making or buying little gifts... only for a half-hearted reciprocation or worse, nothing at all. A small sigh escaped. Being a care taker was in her nature, after all that's why she answered the ad for a nanny of a wealthy English family. Well... that and the money. Still, it was yet another reason she couldn't just abandon Brahms. Her expression soured. 'Or maybe I'm just a push over.' She thought.
"You're quiet..." Brahms head came back up, rolling his shoulder with a low pop of his shoulder blade.
"Huh, oh...yeah, just thinking to myself."
"About?" He stood up, stretching his arms high above his head, yawning. She couldn't stop herself from sneaking a glance at where the thick forest of his chest hair trailed down and disappeared under his hip-hanging lounge pants. The worn, thin, fabric did little to obscure the curvature of his groin, giving her just enough of a silhouette that she could determine what Brahms had there...and it appeared to be sizable. Heat rose up into her cheeks. She swiftly looked away and bit her lip before he caught her staring.
When she built the courage to look back, he was settling down beside her on the bed, lotion bottle in hand, squeezing a generous amount into his palm. "Your turn."
"What? Oh no no.. I already did my ar-" her voice faded, replaced by stunned silence and eventually a low hum of pleasure as his large hands cupped her shoulders, massaging her in the same manner as she had done for him. And just as he had done, her head lulled forward, hanging slack as he squeezed and kneaded her neck muscles. A few times she had to have him adjust his grip strength, but as soon as he found the correct pressure, she melted like warm butter to his rolling thumbs.
Before she knew it, Brahms had drawn her back against his chest, arms caging her in as he worked down her shoulders to her biceps. Leaning forward, enveloping her, he pressed the warm cheek of his mask against hers. She froze, every relaxed muscle now stiff with anticipation, but she couldn't place the nature. Good or bad? Brahms paused momentarily and reached up, tugging the wrapped towel on her head open and tossing it away. Her still damp hair hung over her eyes, dripping now and then. Embracing her, he nuzzled his masked face into the dewy mass and sucked in a deep breath, inhaling the mixture of aromatic soaps she used.
Frantically, her eyes scanned the room. She had to distract him somehow or things might get out of control. Looking down to his wandering hands, now reaching her forearms, she noticed his thumbs. Both nails had been severely chewed down and were ringed in painful looking hangnails.
"Brahms! Your nails!" She grabbed his hands, peeling them off her and holding them out for him to see. "You've gnawed these to the knuckle!" Momentarily startled out of his advances, Brahms studied his thumbs as she slipped from his grasp. An excuse to put some distance between them, she rooted around in her pouch for her nail clippers and file.
Once the items were found, she sat across from him and began to work on the damaged nails. Her heartbeat pounding all the way in her throat. 'That was close. Way too close!' Brahms watched with interest as she carefully clipped the loose skin around his cuticles and evened out the jagged edges of his nails. "Man, these puppies are in rough shape." She commented, her head down in concentration. "Don't you need your fingers in good condition to play your violin?"
"I manage alright."
"Well...still... You shouldn't chew them down like this."
"You sound like my mum."
"Oh? Is that a compliment or an insult?" She didn't bother to look up but just moved onto the next finger, smoothing down the uneven edge before digging the pointed tip of the file under the nail to clean out any gunk.
"Just an observation." He mumbled softly, clearing his throat. "She always chastised me for chewing on my thumbs. Whenever she caught me, she'd punish me by making me dip them in a nasty tasting powder. Burned like hell when it got into the cuts."
"Guess that punishment didn't fully take huh." She said, gesturing to the bitten down nubs on his thumbs.
"You could say that." He grew quiet, studying his cleaned and neatened fingers in silent contemplation.
"Looks like we both have wandering thoughts tonight." She took his hands and painted a fragrant oil from a small bottle around his cuticles. "This will help it heal, but I wouldn't recommend biting them...also, it tastes kinda bad." She made a sympathetic face.
As she put her supplies back into the tote, Brahms caught sight of something he'd never seen before. Reaching in past her, he pulled out an odd looking metal device. It resembled a pink handled whisk with the wires cut and tipped in small beads of plastic.
"That's a head massager." She informed him. "Would you like me to demonstrate?" He gave her a small nod and handed it over. "Close your eyes and lower your head." Brahms shot her a doubtful look. "Trust me. You'll love it." She grinned.
Doing as instructed, he tipped forward, bowing low enough that she could easily reach the crown of his head. Nuzzling the pink prong tips into his bushy dark curls, she slowly applied pressure until they bloomed open like delicate spidery fingers, engulfing the circumference of his skull. Brahms eyes blinked wide momentarily before rolling back under fluttering lids, rumbling a moan of pure ecstasy.
"Yeah... I totally agree. I love using this to relax." She giggled, gliding the massager up and down slowly like a tiny butter churn, making sure to twist it every so often so different parts of his scalp were stimulated. "But, as much as I'd love to do this all night.." She slipped the massager off his head and returned it to her bag. "It's way past both our bed times."
Brahms let off a childish whine. "Awww..."
"And you promised you'd sleep in your own bed." She reminded him, flashing him a stern expression, her hands on her hips.
Brahms crossed his arms with a sniff. "I made no such promise."
She hopped off the bed and opened the bedroom door. "Now Brahms, be a good boy for me and please go to your room. We can continue this tomorrow. I'm not going anywhere." She tried to keep it sweet, but a tired exasperation was rising in her voice.
He glanced at the doorway before a haughty look glinted in his eyes. Stretching out on her bed, hands tucked behind his head, he crossed his feet and settled snugly against the pillows.
"Make me."
Puffing out her cheeks, the exasperation turned to indignation. "Spoiled brat! You promised the other night! Now go to your room!" She stomped over, hooking her hands through the crook of his bent arm and tugged as hard as she could. Brahms couldn't help but laugh as she struggled to pull him off the bed to no avail. He barely budged a foot. She huffed loudly, strands of her hair, sticking to her forehead.
"Had enough?" He teased.
Before she could even form a response, he launched off the pillows, grasping her about her waist and wrenched her onto the bed with him. Flailing in his arms, she shouted curses and weakly pounded her fists against his chest. Only once her hands were pinned to her sides and Brahms loomed over, did she become subdued.
His gaze slipped from her panting and flustered features to where her camisole dipped low at her chest. A peek of cleavage hidden there. Hunger briefly flashed behind his eyes.
"I win." He smugly proclaimed.
Releasing her wrist, he brought his hand up to caress along her cheek, lowering still.
"Kiss." It came out breathy and light, almost a whisper next to her ear.
She shot him a grumpy look. "And why should I reward you with a kiss?
"I've been good all day, and like I said... I won." He explained, matter-of-factly, his eyes scanning her up and down. "Besides, you promised I could have a kiss any time I want one. Remember?"
She heaved a heavy sigh. He was right, she did promise him. As per their arrangement, she closed her eyes. A pulse thudded behind her eye lids mirroring the heart beat between her thighs. They shared warm, nervous, breaths between, as his flesh and blood lips brushed against hers.
Small pecks became deeper and more fervent, lingering longer and longer between each separation.
"Ok...ok." She relented when one particular kiss seemed to last just a bit too long. "You can stay...just please...go to sleep." She whimpered, pressing the heels of her palms into her eye sockets. She felt Brahms shift beside her, a faint click, and the room darkened around them. She blinked a few times, adjusting to the dark night, knowing it was safe to open her eyes now. Slipping an arm under her and pressing close, he pulled the covers over the two of them and nuzzled the smooth, hard mask into her shoulder.
"I win." He reiterated softly, followed by a long deep yawn.
"Yeah... You win." She grumbled in resignation, pretending to be miffed, her arms already coiling around him as she hunkered down and fell asleep.
