the first time i rolled a toon i was on my partner’s account and had literally no idea what i was doing. it was during the summer before legion’s release. i’d never played an mmo before. i didn’t know how to talk in the game, resulting in people who approached me for guild charters having my toon awkwardly turn towards them and stare as i pressed random keys on the keyboard trying to figure out which one let me talk. 

anyway, the important part is i went to a flight master once to try to decide where to go after i fucked up during the starting zone and lost the chain of quests (i thought you could only earn credit towards one at a time, so i’d finish a quest in one area and be sent right back to it.) my partner had some of the flight points unlocked on new toons from the heirloom vendor. i didn’t want to hang out with other new people because the concept of other players existing in a game world still freaked me out, so i wanted to get as far away as i could. 

when i opened the map, i thought the numbers next to the zones’ names were the number of miles away they were.

i’ve been meaning to do this post for YEARS and i finally managed to dig out all these sketches and put them together.

the sexual dimorphism in WoW has always been sad especially considering blizz had such good ideas at the start but the furious fan feedback always made them redesign these fascinating and monstrous females of the races into much more humanlike. i also remember the uproar of thin male blood elves and the homophobic and sexist slurs that followed which made them beef up the male model considerably.

i tried my best to give a go at redesigning them to make their body types, postures and facial features more aligned.

dwarf, undead, goblin and gnome models on the other hand are great, 5/5.
