Why are people obsessed with deciphering social and fashion trends to try to subvert or cheat class distinctions. Either you’re in or you’re out, fate will decide how fashionable you come across, you shouldn’t have to think about it. You can’t cheat the system and doing so successfully requires so much pressure. Unless you’re in a creative industry I don’t see the point and even then, shouldn’t establishing a POV be more valuable? You’re also setting yourself up to be categorically late to everything to a trained eye so it defeats the purpose. Obsession with branding and trend forecasting is indicative of a desire to trick people out of insecurity. Which like, I believe people’s insecurities tbh. So it just comes across as a signal of an innate inadequacy, aside from the obvious lack of imagination.
