If the Aiel and the Forsaken have taught me anything, it's that the Aes Sedai don't know everything about it. See, if I stopped fighting it, even for a second, I'd be gone. It's just always there.
fal makes people uncomfortable intentionally (chaos gremlin) & dirth makes people uncomfortable unintentionally (autism). they are not the same.
they call me the information withholder for reasons i won't get into
ELROND appreciation 06/∞ S2E8 "Shadow and Flame"
solas mentioning dirth during the blood of arlathan quest, recognising the good dirth did for their people and calling elgy a bully who ruled over what the others had built... most affirming moment for me as a dirth apologist, i won't even lie.
Codex entry: Dirthamen: Keeper of Secrets
"The twins Falon'Din and Dirthamen are the eldest children of Elgar'nan the All-Father and Mythal the Protector. The brothers were inseparable from the moment of their conception, known for their great love for each other. That is why we often speak of Falon'Din in one breath and Dirthamen the next, for they cannot bear to be apart, not even in our tales.
When the world was young, the gods often walked the earth, and Falon'Din and Dirthamen were no exception. Both were delighted by the many wonders of our earth. They played with the animals, whispered to the trees, and bathed in the lakes and streams. Their days were filled with bliss, and they did not know sorrow.
And then one day, while passing through the forest, Falon'Din and Dirthamen came across an old and sickly deer resting beneath a tree. "Why do you sit so still, little sister?" asked Falon'Din.
"Play with us," said Dirthamen.
"Alas," spoke the deer, "I cannot. I am old, and although I wish to go to my rest, my legs can no longer carry me."
Taking pity on the deer, Falon'Din gathered her up into his arms and carried her to her rest beyond the Veil. Dirthamen tried to follow them, but the shifting grey paths beyond the Veil would not let him. Separated for the first time from Falon'Din, Dirthamen wandered aimlessly 'til he came across two ravens.
"You are lost, and soon you will fade," the raven named Fear said to Dirthamen.
"Your brother has abandoned you. He no longer loves you," said the other, named Deceit.
"I am not lost, and Falon'Din has not abandoned me," replied Dirthamen. He subdued the ravens and bade them carry him to Falon'Din. This they did, for they had been defeated and were now bound to Dirthamen's service.
When Dirthamen found Falon'Din, he found also the deer, who once again was light on her feet, for her spirit was released from her weakened body. Both Falon'Din and Dirthamen rejoiced to see this. Falon'Din vowed that he would remain to carry all the dead to their place Beyond, just as he did the deer. And Dirthamen stayed with him, for the twins cannot bear to be apart."

* ➷ . ELVHENAN CODEX ENTRIES MEME : something written about your character during the titan war. prompted by @lostinquisitor.
to our defence, he rises whene'er the earth trembles and stones come down like rain to bury all we have built.
in this manner we met my flesh, my bone swallowed by those of the stone comen to reclaim the melodies stolen from silenced souls.
i lay wasting, one amongst many elven fading. but then, piercing through the heart of the ever-dark, a shining star.
i am awe, the star said. take my hand, shine with me.
the maw of the abyss he held open, beckoning us towards a paradise in flames.
half-slain, i stumbled out the mouth of my tomb. voices around me called out oh saviour, where shall we go? what shall we do?
a moment passed then he said: walk with me. put to memory our stories. put to memory our songs.
where he walked, we followed. from the desert to the sea, past the rocky grave he calls birth.
more titans he slew alongside others whose light burn as brightly. pyrrhic victories he did not celebrate, but mourn.
they were here first, he reminded us. put to memory their stories. put to memory their songs.
we who follow see the shame and sorrow he hides under masks when benevolence caresses his cheeks and worship rests on his lap.
yet a fire burns under the shame and sorrow, a will to live and build, to remember what is lost. to learn what is to come.
someone has to bear the burden, he said to us the night he knelt to the one they call the eldest of the sun.
our keeper of memories. our keeper of light. and i am to be his first.
" a recalling ", put to memory by an elf once called " faith ", the first priest of dirthamen.

Invalid reasons for why a character should not be redeemed:
They’re too evil! - Redemption has nothing to do with how good or evil you were to begin with.
They don’t deserve it! - Redemption is not something that can be “deserved.”
Their actions are unforgivable! - Redemption has nothing to do with forgiveness.
It’s too late for them to change! - It is only “too late” to choose redemption when a character is dead (unless the scope of the story includes an afterlife in which change is possible).
Valid reasons for why a character should not be redeemed:
It doesn’t fit the themes of the story.
They’re not an important enough character for showing the process of a redemption arc to be worthwhile.
They’re more interesting as a character who isn’t doing the right thing.
It’s more satisfying to let them keep being evil.
It makes it more satisfying when they die.
There’s probably more, but you get the idea.
Remember, redemption is when someone realizes they are wrong, and takes steps to doing the right thing. That is not something that can be “deserved,” it is not something that hinges on forgiveness, and it is not something that it is ever too late for! …Unless the person is dead or something.
the twin gods dirthamen and falon'din split from the spirit of reverence. falon'din took on the "expression" of reverence and became worship ( and later on: vanity ). dirthamen took on the "emotion" of reverence and became awe ( and later on: fear ).
awe is a complex emotion that invokes the feeling of wonder as well as fear. we most often experience awe when we are reminded that we are a part of something greater, much bigger than ourselves. for some, this is a scary thing. vastness perceived is a horror as old as intelligent life. it challenges one's perception of reality and demands respect.
" in narrative, he is the secret behind what beckons, whose reveal answers questions first denied, then demanded. "
as the rebellion drew to a close, spirits who were once friends of dirthamen had begun to call him by his twin's name. war and grief had turned dirthamen so cold and callous that the spirits only saw the face of falon'din when they looked upon him. dirthamen tried to correct his friends, but they refused to listen and accused him of trying to deceive them. dirthamen felt shame for being mistaken for falon'din, and it was only then that he realised the person he had become. spirits see people for who they truly are. and who he truly was is no longer a dirthamen. he was no longer awe, an emotion of wonder and fear. he was only fear.
dirth's relationship with each of the evanuris. note: i am open to plotting different dynamics from what is written below with other evanuris writers ( and i have! ). this is simply a blog canon for others to make use of.
those he considers "blood" kin ( not exactly like our idea of a biological family member, but close ):
mythal. mother. dirth has never referred to her as such and probably never will. he was not born. he chose to become flesh. "mother" was not in his vocabulary when she still lived, but she was a parent to him all the same. he sought her approval like a child would. he went to her for protection and to be comforted like a child would. he thought she was beautiful, radiant, and warm. she is a part of him in a way no other evanuris are.
falon'din. twin brother. to call falon'din a sibling is almost too simple a description. once they were one. dirth will always be one half of a soul longing to be whole again.
??? "our father which art in heaven" type of situation:
elgar'nan. father. not in the sweet, familial way. father as in; maker, life-giver, authority. dirth was elgar'nan's prized "child", the one he was most proud of. elgar'nan still has love for dirth despite his role in the rebellion. dirth knows this and it fucks him up. if the worst person you know loves you, what does that say about you? ( deep, deep, deep down, he also still has love for elgar'nan )
kin by choice:
ghilan'nain. sister. dirth considered her a little sister and referred to her as such in private until the day ghil swore herself to andruil. ghil never returned this sentiment. or rather, her pride did not allow her to. dirth ( wrongly ) believed her to be a victim of andruil and elgar'nan's brainwashing, a fact that ghilan'nain despised. even though he still thinks of her as a little sister in vg, he understands the need for her demise. he does not mourn her when she is finally killed. more about their relationship here.
solas. friend turned enemy. they were friends at one point and something close to brothers at another ( solas will never admit it & dirth did not realise it ). also... dirth used to have a crush on the guy when they were young, but we don't need to talk about that...
it's complicated:
sylaise. acquaintance. she helped him build his mountain city. they were good colleagues for many millennia, but never more. dirth became quite apathetic towards her once he learned of her involvement in mythal's death.
june. brother(-zoned). they hooked up once, but it didn't go anywhere. dirth wasn't enough for june, and they both knew it. june's decision to side with elgar'nan upset dirth deeply. he cut all ties with june after mythal's death.
enemy:
andruil. they never got along. dirth found her disturbing and despicable from the very beginning. the two even warred with one another, but this war is now forgotten to history. dirth expelled all followers of anduil from his city after andruil's attack .
