For those of us with an interest in typefaces, can you talk a little bit about your new font for Robert Cop? It's more like your old SGR font, but I don't believe it is the same one.

That’s just a test font, a placeholder, the actual comics won’t be in this 4-panel format and won’t use the same font. I chose a free font off Blambot, I’ll get something a little fancier for the final thing. I might use an all-caps font, but then again… I might… not… SUSPENSE!!!!

Not that my opinion has any relevance BUT this seems like a good chance to weigh in with it ANYWAY (sorry)

I recently went back to the SGR archives after reading Bad Machinery and... the all caps font really didn’t work for me. Same with these Robert Cop tests. It’s funny, because I don’t remember it bothering me the first 1000 times I read SGR, but the (subtlety? nuance?) afforded by the mixed-case font in Bad Machinery just brings it to a whole new level. I can really hear the characters in my head, it allows for more intonation rather than just reading like loud monotone.

Literally why is no one talking about this? When I saw it on the Facebook trending column, essentially all comments were by males calling him a “liar” and a “pussy”. I didn’t see one comment like this by a woman.

I hope all the men who comment on articles about womens issues saying things like ‘what about when MEN get raped?’ read the comments on these and realise that when men speak out about rape, it’s men who respond by calling them ‘self indulgent’ and ‘idiots’.
