when your mom is yelling at you to do more chores while youâre doing chores and youâre there likeÂ
We should stop buying iPhones and eating avocado toasts so we can buy diamonds, houses and eat at BWW and ApplebeeâsÂ
Their food ainât even that great. Why get subpar, fast food when I can get something healthier, tastier, and/or more financially reasonable?
Why am I gonna go to BDubs for overpriced low quality food when I can freeze a ton of chicken to ration out over months, throw together some veggies, and mix my own spices for like a third of the cost?
Plus even if Iâm going to spend money on going out Iâm not going to spend $12.99 on whatâs basically a box mix, Iâm going to try to go to a local business that serves good food, often with way lower in sodium and fats, instead of a major corporation serving mediocre food
I justâŚthese articles keep getting stupider. Iâm not even a millennial and Iâm fucking sick of them. PAY PEOPLE A LIVING WAGE. OH AND HOW ABOUT UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE AND MAYBE AFFORDABLE QUALITY EDUCATION. MAYBE THEN PEOPLE WILL BUY YOUR SHITTY FUCKING FOOD.
VIVA LA FUCKING AVOCADO TOAST.
Maybe itâs because Applebeeâs is fucking shit.
Applebees: Can it be that our food just isnât good? Applebees: No, itâs the millennials that are wrong
maybe i wanna eat my wings in front of netflix instead of 500 screens each playing a different sport at the same time
That last comment made me slam the reblog button
my mom walked in on my boyfriend and i naked and then 5 minutes later she slipped this note under my door
do older generations not get fatalistic humor?? like the other day my friendâs parents were hanging around and we were joking and i was like âwell no matter what i can always fling myself off the nearest cliffâ and they didnât laugh then later the mom pulled me aside and was like âmaybe you should get some help, sweetieâ like stfu?? help? in this economy? i donât think so, debra
I honestly donât think they get it as a coping mechanism, they think itâs a cry for help rather than actually helping.
iâd even say itâs past just coping and is also now a category of Stuff Kids Got Used To When No One Was Looking; not everyone using that humor is even covering up something bigger, we just stopped thinking fatalistic = taboo/unspeakable somewhere along the line, and most parents donât seem to know why or how ~
My boss opened a door and missed me by inches, he said âwhoops, almost killed you there!â My result of âOh, if only.â Led to an awkward end of shift debrief.
This generation shares the same humor as the goddamn Addams Family and the previous generation is the White Sixties Family⢠that lives next door and runs away screaming at the end of the episode
I will say that itâs interesting because this kind of humor is very, very prevalent somewhere elseâŚ
the military.
Which is honestly a place you would expect fatalistic humor to be common and used as a coping method. Youâre one âoopsâ away from death on the flight deck, one inch to the left and you donât have a head anymore because the jet that just landed now owns it as a wing-tip decoration. So you joke about it because lowkey youâre fucking terrified itâll happen, but youâre also desensitized to the danger itself because you face it every single day for 12 hours at a time.
Anyway so we all know the mindset you adopt in the military because of the danger, so to realise that an identical sense of humor has been adopted by normal people should probably tell you something very important about the amount of stress modern young folks experience in daily life.
That last one⌠itâs true
It was also common in previous generations that had to deal with say, war and economic depression on a massive scale.
One of my favorite movies is Singing In The Rain which came in out 1952, right on the tailcoat of two world wars and a looming cold one, and for all itâs a cheery happy musical, itâs got this really bleak witty humor too, things like âcall me a cab!â âokay, youâre a cab!â or the scene where Don says heâll be homeless by the next day and Cosmo cheerfully tells him not to be ridiculousâŚthe bank bailiffs donât open till Monday.
And then quite probably one of my favorite opening lines, where two young girls are watching Lina on screen and one says âSheâs so refined. I think Iâll kill myself.â
Which really resonates with a lot of the things we say now when talking about people we find personally attractive, meaning not only is fatalism not a new trend, but those two girls at the starting sequence of Singing In The Rain are totally there for Lina, not Don.Â
Youâre welcome.
oh my god this is blowing my mind. singinâ in the rain is millennial humor
Don Lockwood (despairing of his career as an actor): Iâm through, fellas. Kathy: Don, youâre not through! Cosmo: Why of course not. Why, with your looks and figure, you could drive an ice wagon, or shine shoes! Kathy: Block hats! Cosmo: Sell pencils! Kathy: Dig ditches!
Peter Parker and Steve Rogers have the same humor confirmed
See: Pretty much all of M*A*S*H
Itâs interesting, âcause my parents were part of the (officially named) âsilent generationâ and their early childhood was in the Great Depression. They were too young to fight in WW2, but Dad saw at least one older brother go off to war,
I wouldnât say their humor was default fatalistic, but they were comfortable with the ironic. And so I grew up comfortable with that, too. I wonder if itâs only a narrow range of âolder generationsâ â like, maybe those who are now in their late 40s, early 50s (who grew up in the plastic polished era of Reagan, and the ethos of âgreed is goodâ)?
(also, reblogging for that M*A*S*H scene)
reblog if you remember what it felt like to walk into blockbuster
does any1 else go thru periods where u don;t want 2 talk anybody not bc ur distressed/angry or u dislike the people ur talking to but bc the pressure of having convos gets overwhelmin sometimes and u jus want 2 step away 4 awhile like i feel like an asshole for going ghost a lot but it;s therapeutic 4 me the pressure of being present and vocal all the time is tew much
I donât know whatâs going on but itâs a lot
i think the world is ready to see this one :)
1999 - The Simpsons predicts everything that happens in the world
The messed up part is that this, along with the Trump presidency, were predicted as jokes. These were seen as things so ridiculous that not only could they not actually happen, the idea of them was funny. So every time a Simpsons prediction comes true, the Simpsons wasnât really trying to predict the future, they were making a cynical joke because they thought the real future would be better than it actually is. Weâre living in the timeline where all the Simpsonsâ worst assumptions about the world were 100% right.
