objectively, elias could understand how adriana felt – he’d nearly died, and the past weeks had been beyond stressful for the whole family. family. it finally felt like he could say that again, with his doubt buried deep, eyes bouncing from the two of them as his excitement grew. “you knew about this mystery gift?” elias questioned her, an eyebrow tweaking upwards.
Adriana’s suspicious near-glare remained fixated on the two; and the green-eyed gaze moved first to Duke, and then to Elias as they both spoke. What could have possibly occurred in the time she’d been gone to have mended things so thoroughly? It seemed likelier she’d consumed tainted blood, and was simply hallucinating it all. “Gifts,” Adriana amended softly, breaking her silence. “It was several things.” Still wary, she pointed to her closet. “Everything is in the bag you brought it in.” After a beat, she admitted in a mumble: “the wine is gone.”Â
Watching as the two move towards her closetspace, she remained tight-lipped for only a brief pause. She never was one to allow the unknown pass by. “Someone – someone explain what is going on.”
Duke’s smile faltered at her reaction before dropping completely. She hadn’t even looked at the things he’d gotten for her; it shouldn’t have hurt so much. He’d been a monster since he’d arrived, he’d only caused trouble for them, but Duke still wanted her to see them. He wanted her to like them. “Oh.” He pulled back from Elias suddenly, feeling strangely out of place. “Then there will be surprises for the both of you.” Duke tried, turning and retrieving the bag from the closet. At her question, he tensed. He didn’t want Adriana to know what he’d done, the problems he always caused, but Duke also knew it wasn’t his place. “Elias?” He asked, eyes begging.
