Decided to rejig the first post I ever made here for admin purposes, so I figured it’s about time I made an intro.
The Disability Book Archive website:
A collection of disabled literature.
Everyone go follow @thedisabilitybookarchive (and visit the website!!) for more book content!
Basic Info:
Call me Curio
I am an adult, and I use she/her pronouns.
I am physically disabled and I use mobility aids. I’m an ambulatory wheelchair/powerchair user, and I also use a cane, a rollator and ankle foot orthotics/splints.
My condition is called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. Please ask me about it if you are curious, I’m more than happy to educate people!
If you're curious but don't want to ask me, here is a link to the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation.
I like cats, dogs, sharks, zombie movies, writing, video games, baking and archery.
Blog Stuff:
This is a disability blog but sometimes I’ll post other stuff I like. It’s tagged “not disability related” so block that if you’re not interested.
My cats are more popular than me. I get that. If you just want the occasional cat stuff [read: rants], it's all here.
I'm not going to post NSFW and never will, but I'm not not going to post some more adult stuff occasionally so. Do with that information what you will.
Sometimes I swear. Sometimes a lot. Just block the "swearing" tag if you don't want to see it.
I have no authority to tell you if you are or are not disabled, but I will support you and offer guidance on the matter if you feel like you need it.
I'm not going to tell you if can or cannot say cripple.
If I don’t like you, your blog, and/or the stuff you post you will be blocked.
I am a member and supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.
I support Gaza. I am absolutely not anti-Jewish.
I am not religious but I will not tolerate hate towards or by religious communities.
If you want to spam like/reblog then go wild. I love when people do that. /srs
If you think I’ve made a mistake on something please just drop me a quick message and I’ll do my best to sort it out. I’m very willing to own up to and fix my mistakes.
Block the “wheelchair in the wild” “curio rambles” and "curio reviews" tags if you’ve just come for the reblogs/resources, and don’t want to see my day to day ramblings.
I try and write descriptions and transcriptions for the media I reblog but sometimes it can take me a little while.
My asks are very much open and I am happy to answer almost anything, even if it’s not disability related. Although if you ask me a question, I might take a couple of days to respond if I have to research it so please be patient.
Resource Masterposts:
I tag all resources that I make and find as “resources” and “disability resources". Some of mine are:
UK Riots: A post I'm making regarding how to find information on the current far-right riots in the UK and staying safe. Please share any information that you can.
Disability Aid Databases- A list of disability databases across the world that offer advice on things like finances, disability services, the law and buying assistive technology/disability aids.
Disability Aids: Where to buy- A large list of disability aid suppliers and businesses across the world.
The Disability Library: Now a website!! A collection of articles and books, non fiction and fiction, regarding disability and/or containing disabled characters. Suggestions welcome. Now you can submit your own books if you scroll to the google form at the end.
Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia: FAQ: I plan on updating this but this is essentially just a bunch of commonly asked questions about HSP.
Other Resources Masterpost: Really just a place where I put other resources I find that I don't have a place for, not all of it disability related. There's some good stuff on here.
Gardening: All the advice I get about gardening
