Joseph of Shönau
Joseph was a servant of a Cologne canonist who took him on an adventurous journey to the Pope in Rome. After his return, Joseph entered the Cistercian monastery of Schönau in 1187. On his deathbed he told his life story: On the joint pilgrimage with his father to the Holy Land, the father died. In order to avoid the reenactments and sexual advances as a single travelling woman, he dressed as a man, and travelled back to Germany under the name Joseph where he took on a life pleasing to God as a monk. He mentioned "Hildegund" as his baptismal name. He was assignd female at death.
Giuseppe (Joseph) era un servitore di un canonista di Colonia che lo portò in un viaggio avventuroso dal Papa a Roma. Dopo il suo ritorno, Giuseppe entrò nel monastero cistercense di Schönau nel 1187. Sul letto di morte raccontò la storia della sua vita: nel pellegrinaggio congiunto con suo padre in Terra Santa, il padre morì. Al fine di evitare le rievocazioni e le avances sessuali come donna in viaggio single, si vestì da uomo e tornò in Germania con il nome di Giuseppe dove intraprese una vita gradita a Dio come monaco. Ha menzionato "Hildegund" come suo nome di battesimo. Gli è stata assegnata una femmina alla morte.
