If you look at who is calling the exposure of discourseprincesa “creepy” and “invasive” and “harassment” and “racist” and “transphobic” and “intersexist” - it is, almost exclusively as far as I can see, people who are both white and not subject to transmisogyny.

If you look at what people of color and transfeminine people are saying, almost every single person I have seen in those demographics who’s commented on the situation has been unconflictedly glad she was exposed, and has not objected to the methods used to do it.

I want everyone to stop and think about why that is.

If someone writes on their public blog (not as a joke), “I was born with a penis growing out of my nose and a vagina growing out of the back of my head, so that makes me an intersex trans woman,” is it creepy, intersexist, and transphobic to question it? 

Is the line dependent on what you think the average level of knowledge of the human body is, where it’s okay to say blatant impossibility A is a blatant impossibility, because everyone knows it is, but blatant impossibility B (claimed by the same person as conflicting things C, D, E, and F) is not okay to question because the knowledge is too obscure? 

Or does it depend on your identity, whether you identify as intersex or not (different from whether you have a condition that the community accepts as an intersex condition), because if you do identify as intersex it’s okay to question but if you don’t it’s none of your business? while i don’t rec tor for a variety of reasons, i do encourage people to install the ghostery extension for chrome or their privacy browser for mobile and block most of what it recommends. i think i had to un-click a few tumblr specific ones to get the reblog button back on chrome; mobile’s more tricky, i haven’t found where to change block settings, but you can go on someone’s blog with a stat counter and block it that way. it blocks most of the common stat counters that people use on tumblr, meaning your ip won’t show up at all unless they’re actually more tech savvy than that (hint: most people are not).

Other people who knew about the biology of intersex conditions have posted (here and here) about why she couldn’t have been telling the truth. i think it is extremely reminiscent of other instances where people have used social justice as a front to form cliques and start gaining social capital by systematically silencing & bullying others in order to rise above them and/or manifesting their social power over them. it’s something that can technically happen in every sort of … social circle that gains traction, especially if the whole circle is kind of based on confrontation. people who get a kick out of popularity and bullying can easily co-opt the strategies of such places. which is why i think we need to stay vigilant about the sort of techniques people employ in interacting with others – if they single out people they dislike or disagree with, isolate them, spread rumours about them, treat their own opinion as dogma, react to any criticism with mockery or silencing tactics, willfully send their friends or followers after others, refuse to treat any issue with nuance, denounce the experiences and feelings of others, attack their vulnaribilities, constantly accuse everyone who criticizes them of serious things like harassment and block these people from defending themselves, etc.; all of that are red flags. not all bullies also lie about their identity, but it’s often the same kind of people who enjoy both of these things, cause both are rewarded with social capital and popularity within the group they are targeting. it’s sometimes hard to differentiate between people who try to protect themselves and people who are being bullies, but like in the end it comes down to their social status in the group and what they have to gain/lose from behaving a certain way.
