molly:
molly had a love-hate relationship with family parties. sure, she loved her family. of the cousins she was closest to fred, and sometimes louis. they hadn’t ever been able to get around the whole ‘molly is percy’s daughter’ thing that set her and lucy apart from the rest of the clan. there was a way that they were supposed to act (which neither of them were particularly good at) that was expected–as percy’s daughters. she loved her aunts and uncles, but parties were more fun when it was just the cousins.
“zabini? no. as much as i’d like to see the look on freddie’s face, he has plans.” they had fought about it earlier–molly with an air of complete dismissal. he had wanted to come along, but she hadn’t thought they were serious enough to take that step yet. in truth, she didn’t plan on ever becoming that serious. though he didn’t adhere to the old blood purity standards, he still had an air of arrogance about him that couldn’t be fucked away. she had tried. unsuccessfully.
“are you bringing malfoy?” she studied her nails passively. “i hear albus is bringing his girlfriend. and rose has a surprise for everyone, whatever the fuck that means. i swear if it’s another prank i will kill her.”
lucy had almost successfully detached herself from the image that molly so carefully maintained and cultivated. they were living worlds apart from each other, though sisters still. molly had been quite an annoyance to lucy when they were in school, as molly was always aping perfection. it was enough to make her self-esteem plummet, though it likely would have without molly’s presence. “so, i’ve heard from dom that everyone but cousins are leaving at 10 or so, and then the real party picks up, which is exciting.”
“he’s rather cute, i think. much cuter than uhhhhh, oh, i can’t keep up.” lucy tried to neutralize the clear bitterness in her sister’s voice, though she wasn’t sure the source. “it’s alright, you know. he won’t be missing much besides twenty questions with dad.” she stood up and looked in the mirror, before searching her desk for her eyeliner.
“i mean, he’s around enough.... but, no he’s not coming. his mum’s still sick. it’s getting a bit worrying, to be quite frank.” lucy leaned in towards her mirror and applied her eyeliner in a few strokes. “not surprised about the rest of ‘em, though.”
