I ran out of perfume samples :(
Forty-seven samples: two great, thirty good, fifteen bad
Some Reviews
Most baffling: Santal 33, Le Labo. It's... ok? I guess? Can't understand why there was/is such a big hype about this. although I liked Taylor's Bell video about the brand and I might try some of their other fragrances.
Most expensive and elegant smelling: Guerlain, various (Habit Rouge, Spiriteuse Double Vanille, Feve Gourmane, Angelique Noire)
Most off-putting and urine-adjacent: Tobacco Honey, Guerlain
Favorites: Solar Flair, Ojar (perfect for summer) and Crush, Akro (very lush, as in lavish but also as in the inside of a Lush store)
This was a lot of fun, especially considering that my nose is not very good, but I don't feel like I actually got very far in terms of identifying which notes I prefer. I wouldn't have been able to predict what ended up being my favorites and I don't feel confident that I'll be able to pick my next favorites without smelling a lot of frogs. I'm not going to purchase anything new for awhile, but when I do I'll have to figure out how to approach this because I'm so easily swayed by scent descriptions and before I know it five million things are in my cart.
TIL that Miffy is Dutch
I already have enough necklaces and I rarely wear rings but these are pretty cute? Or are they too silly?
Spring/Summer Fashion Project
Go through all my clothes and continue sorting out items
Double-check the discarded items and then actually donate them instead of just having a bag of clothes laying in the hallway for months
Continue closet re-organization until everything is in its place (no more floor piles!!!)
Buy new clothes to fill the gaps in my wardrobe: at least two jeans to replace the pairs that are too tight and/or too old, two to three pairs of cloth or linen pants, maybe a blazer, one or two blouses, flats and/or a nicer pair of sneakers. I want more tee shirts and some dresses/skirts, but those are less necessary.
I have a wishlist of items and a rough idea of what I want to achieve, but there's also some new-to-me pieces I'm not sure how to properly style and I need to generally get better at combining pieces and getting a sense of the different elements of an outfit/what goes well together.
I've probably been reading too many fashion Substacks lately (especially Meighan Grady's corporate office outfit diaries) and as a result I've gotten fixated on pieces/looks that I can't afford and/or don't make any sense for my lifestyle/more casual office environment... but since my promotion and my ongoing mini-crisis about getting older I want to make an effort to look more polished. The joke is that I'm probably going to end up spending more than my raise but oh well!
Tangential: improve hair/skin/make-up and continue with my quest for a signature fragrance
three weeks later
I've sorted through most but not all of my clothes. The discarded items are still undonated/clogging up the hallway. Closet is re-organized and clothes are on the floor less often and for shorter durations of time. My average outfit quality has definitely risen.
New purchses this quarter: three Taylor shirts, one Taylor hoodie, one pair of jeans (on sale), one pair of cloth pants (pre-owned), one grey sweatshirt (pre-owned), one cat shirt (on sale), one impractical velvet sequined skirt that can be part of my Christmas outfit, two pairs of socks (on sale). Happy with how everything has integrated into my wardrobe. except the shiny bug shirt, because of it's weird shape, which I'm thinking of selling or adding to the pile of clothes to give my mom for sewing projects. (I could also learn to sew myself but that's probably not happening because I'm manually inept and have a complex about being bad at things.)
I also bought two new bags, despite the fact that I already have so many purses/tote bags/backpacks, but in my defense they were both really cute? and if I can get myself out the door later today, I might buy the blue and green Uniqlo drawstring bags if they have them in store and they look good in person.
