2. "It was only a few weeks before my first diSiac show (and first dance show ever) and Angie approached me about being Sid in her Toy Story themed piece "Not For Sale." There was an interlude in the song and she thought maybe a mock fight between Sid and Andy could fill the space. I thought, "well at least I won't be alone up there" and agreed to do it. Soon after it was changed to just be me and I was literally under the spotlight.
I was definitely scared. The Richardson stage is huge and feels even bigger when you're all alone up there. But because of Angie's encouragement and everyone else's constant support, by show night I felt crazy enough to do it.
The experience taught me a lot about letting go and throwing myself into things I might at first believe I'm not qualified for. I'm a much more confident dancer now thanks to the love of this blue family. I also found that each night the stage felt smaller and smaller and more like home." -Raheem Barnett '18

3. "#tbt to my first diSiac show (even though it was only a couple months ago!): As someone who has had a variety of dance experiences on campus before auditioning, I was blown away by the intense company love, the alumnae, the professionalism of the show, and the entire community that came out to watch my first diSiac show last April. I remember Tyler asking me if I had enjoyed my first semester, and I couldn't even formulate an answer, because diSiac was the family I had been searching for on campus, and at the same time the dance outlet that I knew I had been missing. I'm really proud to be painted blue." -Kamber Hart '16
4. The Princeton dance scene is HUGE! There are tons of student-run companies to choose from, each with their own style and personality. Despite all the different kinds of dance happening on campus, we still value a sense of unity. Besides seeing each other’s shows (catch us being rowdy at the Saturday late!), we also jump at the rare opportunity to share the stage with other companies. This is from our collaboration with BodyHype Dance Company and BAC: Dance Company at This is Princeton 2014, an annual showcase produced by Princeton University Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students and the Performing Arts Council of Princeton University!

5. "One of my favorite pieces I've ever performed was "Set You Free" by Maeve during my Freshman Spring show, Wired. It wasn't a grand piece like those set in Berlind, and it didn't even have a specific story, emotion, or theme. But that's exactly what made it stand out for me.
The piece perfectly represented the stage of my life at the time where I finally found my bearings as a young freshman at Princeton and really just felt at home and free on stage with my diSiac family. I love how the piece begins so humbly and subdued, yet builds to become a pure celebration of dance and happiness and the love that we all feel when we dance together.
I think the most powerful moment comes at the end when we all sit together, cross-legged, peacefully looking out at the audience, feeling the connection and pride about what we just accomplished over the few minutes of the dance. Just thinking about performing this piece makes me feel Wired." -Maria Yu '16

8. “#tbt to the newb class of fall 2014 lined up and ready for our first show. I’m doing my best not to show the fear that I have for being on a stage for the first time but all of the time in rehearsals really pulled through. This year I definitely had no idea what I was getting into by joining a dance company and at this point in time I was still unsure if they were making the right decision by putting me on stage, but honestly the other members in the company have been so supportive in and out of rehearsal that they really make you feel part of something bigger. And that is why the people in this picture are some of my best friends today.” -Peyton Smith ‘18
9. “The diSiac I love most is diSiac without any of the extras: no costumes, no lights, no stage, no sleep. So, Sunday 10am company rehearsals. During these two hours every week, I am reminded how GOOD everyone is, plain n simple! Without any other distractions (diStraction? #tbt), I am reminded that first and foremost, we dance for each other. Love a good Saturday late show, but my favorite audience will always be my diSi fam." -Alexandra Loh '17

10. “One night during our Preview diSiac held a showcase of a few pieces from their upcoming show Ablaze. This was the first time I saw choreography and performance at the university level that I truly connected with. It was about musicality and dynamics, about pushing boundaries while remaining relatable to their audience. I can remember the girl sitting next to me leaning over during one of the pieces and saying, "can you even imagine dancing with these people?" Looking back, it seems crazy that two years later I can't imagine anything else." -Casey Ivanovich '17

11. "Because it was so happy and groovy and when Angie jumped on Liam's back like a little koala on a tree it warmed our hearts like wow. And even tho there were only 6 dancers on that huuuge Richardson stage - their big movement and stage presence and genuine happiness to be dancin' for such a live crowd made it something rly memorable." -Katie Kubala '18

13. #tbt the last night of my first show, in the midst of Ankur '14 giving his senior speech. I love the senior speeches because although they are always the most tear-jerking, sentimental moments of the show, they let us reflect on each individual member's time dancing and growing with diSiac. Though I only had one semester to dance with the graduating class of 2014, I will always remember #ontheedge for being my introduction to this sometimes silly, sometimes serious, but always wild crowd of bluebs.
14. “It was the week of my first show, Ablaze. And at the last minute I ended up being thrown into this piece, Latch, which was probably the scariest thing that could happen to a newbie frosh. I honestly did not think I would be able to learn it and live up to Maria Yu, who was literally made for the piece.
It was a crucial learning experience for me though, and it taught me a lot about jumping in and stepping up. It also forced me to stop caring so much about being nervous when I perform, and to start enjoying the time diSiac shares together onstage. This experience embodies the spirit of this company for me. diSiac throws us into situations where we are in charge and have to step up to make sure the company runs smoothly.
The support that I felt during that first run-through as a little freshman has followed me through the years. This wild family has truly become my home at Princeton.” -Emily Wohl ‘16

15. “Being bold and pushing the limits is what diSiac is all about. I can't wait to come back as an alum and see another creative piece like this. With little dance experience, I was scared beyond belief at my first diSiac rehearsal. But everyone around me was so kind and supportive, and I appreciated how comfortable everyone was being weird around one another. We danced liked little frogs, played creepy, and acted like little kids. It was a magical (weird) experience. And I loved every second of it.” -Shawon Jackson ‘15

16. “Because occasionally being together until the sun nearly rises isn't quite enough time with one another, diSi loves to use our GroupMe. Whether we are sending shameless selfies, poor drawings, custom made memes, words of encouragement, or any form of exciting-- or perhaps not so exciting-- news (Maechi's airport adventures), we manage to constantly keep one another entertained.
