Since this post of mine has been reblogged more than others lately, I’d like to clarify that my goal in it wasn’t to equate trauma or anything of the sort. Just that the truth of the matter is, concretely speaking, asexual people and aromantic people face backlash just like other people in the LGBTQIA+ community do. It’s not the same kind of backlash, but it IS backlash for sure. And the point isn’t to compare which is worse. One only ever knows their own experience anyway and the point is, if their experience is painful, it’s painful, and deserving of compassion. Trying to make a scale out of it just opens mental cans of worms that get in the way of us feeling collectively better, no matter what our experiences are.

(…Also for the record, now that I have a partner that looks the same gender as me (they’re NB but you know there’ll always be people who’ll assume), I have high chances of facing a combo of both backlashes, so joke’s on me I guess)
