The shape of a voice
For Kenma, being deaf wasn’t all that bad. He couldn’t hear the other people, and that helped somewhat with his anxiety. It meant two things: that he would only have to deal with the few people who really made the effort to communicate with him, and that he could ignore anyone else without feeling guilty about it.
His parents and his friend Kuroo were able to speak with him through sign language. His teammates had learned some signs, and that was enough for most of them at least. For anyone else, they simply had to type on their phones.
With Shouyou it was easy to communicate; because they lived so far from each other anyway, they had to text. So it wasn’t like he expected Shouyou to learn sign language, since it would be a waste of time considering they could barely see each other.
However, there was something Kenma would have liked to sign to Shouyou instead of typing it; but not only would Shouyou not understand it, he was too nervous about saying it in the first place that he probably wouldn’t be able to get himself to finish the signs.
As he waited to arrive to Tokyo Hinata kept mentally practicing the gestures he’d learned to not forget, but he was actually too excited to focus on that for a long time.
He was finally going to say it! And Kenma was going to see it, understand him without having to read anything! Just that made him want to get up and run back and forth through the space between the seats, but he decided not to because he didn’t want to be kicked out of the bus.
Once he finally arrived after what it seemed countless hours he immediately headed towards Kenma’s house, trotting over to get there faster. At least it wasn’t that far away from the bus stop, so when he got there he took his phone out and texted Kenma to let him know he was outside.
[ I’m here!!!!
I’m waiting outside!!!! The bus took forever but I finally made it… See u in like some moments lol!!!!! ]
Kenma had been on his bed, playing with one of the newest games he had bought. He was so focused that he almost missed his cellphone’s blinking light, telling him that he had a new message. After pausing his game, he checked who it was from.
It was a message from Shouyou. He immediately smiled, vaguely aware of the fact that Kuro wasn’t there to tease him about it. But when he opened it, he was surprised.
Shouyou?
After taking a moment to blink at the message, Kenma stood up and quickly got to the front door, pulling it open. Indeed, Shouyou was standing there.
