"Just a reminder I'm still around, y'know..."
Happy fuckin' new year, I guess.
I'm in the mood for alcohol, anyone care to join me?
Dawn noticed something for a split second as she waited for Kris to reply to her. She seemed to have paused- why the girl didn’t know, but it did raise her curiosity slightly. She was obviously thinking about something of some relevance, but Dawn decided to ignore it and continue to allow her eyes to cast around the area which they were standing in.
The woods around the two girls weren’t actually that dense, and the smell of fresh grass made Dawn lift her nose to sniff it a bit, albeit looking a bit strange in doing so. The air around was thin and crisp, lapping gently against Dawn’s face as she continued to listen to Kris speak. When she finished her statement, Dawn nodded slightly and scrapped her feet against the soft ground underneath her- at the same time folding her arms across her body and shivering. Even though the girl was usually accustomed to the cold weather of her own home’s climate, she’d learnt that this resilience wears off the more you’re away from home. This fact almost made the girl feel a bit sad.
“Oh… I see.” Being around a load of drunken people was definitely not the girl’s cup of tea- in any sense; especially ones that would be loud and generally stressful around her. The girl couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh at the reality of Goldenrod city-she expected slightly more to look at for one of the bigger cities in Johto. She decided to take the other girl’s words for what it was like- it made things a lot easier that way. “Eating something… That sounds like a good idea.” These words may have been mumbled too quietly for Kris to hear, but she said them regardless. It was a good idea, anyway- Dawn hadn’t had that much to eat at all, so it would be nice to stop off somewhere.
Daw glanced down at the girl’s fingers for a second. She was tugging on the end of her jacket- a habit which the girl hadn’t seen before, herself. Dawn bit the bottom of her lip, anchoring her head towards the floor so it didn’t look like she was staring. This kind of short silence was one of the things the girl hated about social interaction in general- mainly because she’d usually choke out something stupid during the short amount of time. For now, Dawn held her tongue and tried to roll her eyes away from the girl as much as she could. Not to be rude, but more as a way to avoid giving her any kind of bad impressions. She did notice that Kris’s hair was quite messy, but she honestly didn’t take that much stock in appearances. If anything this made Dawn relax slightly- not having to try really hard to impress, that is. Though thinking like that was indirectly rude in itself.
Dawn blinked a couple of times as the girl started to walk, quite taken aback, in fact. Though she just gulped to herself and followed at a slow pace behind her, lightly treading on the ground a few yards behind her. The distance might have made things slightly more awkward by ways of conversation, but the girl decided to perk up anyway.
“What sort of food do they serve there? I’m not really that fussy, but…”
Ahh--Kris was correct, Dawn would follow. She hadn't noticed whether or not the kid was following, though she could hear light footsteps behind her--and if she heard correctly, she could hear a light voice which sounded more like she was talking to herself than to another person.. It was true, this girl was much worse off than she herself was. Hell, she felt not so socially inept anymore around Dawn.
A pang of sympathy rang through her stomach--kind of like the kind when you saw a really cute animal smashed along the middle of the road--and she couldn't help but say something. She wouldn't be very brash about it, or make a big deal over it to prevent losing her guest's interest, though she'd be kind of tender in manner when speaking.
Calmly pausing in her stride, she gave a soft laugh, "You can walk with me, you know."
She turned back around as she waited for the white-and-pink-hatted girl to catch up. Why she was being... not harsh? She couldn't necessarily figure out. Food for thought later, and she could admit that a lightness came about through her stomach, as if a side of that heavy weight that continually held her close to the ground was lifted. Refreshing it was, and Kris would ask no questions about it to herself until later.
As Dawn met Kris's path, she turned back to the opposite direction to begin their walk once more. Normally the Johto girl's pace was fast and directed, though she would calm it as if she were casually strolling--something she hadn't done for quite some time. Perhaps that would help keep her new companion from straying too much, as it wasn't often she got to talk to people anyway.
She hadn't originally noticed how fresh the forest was, considering it was winter--Kris never really observed her surroundings anymore, as it was mostly unimportant to sit around and stargaze and things of the likes. Priorities were often the case, and normally she wandered or hung out in her rundown apartment in Goldenrod City.
"What kind of food do you like? Any particular tastes or cultures you prefer? There's actually quite a few nice places to grub in town, it's really cool how much of a variety there's available." Comfortable silences were nice, though she felt the need to break it as partially to figure out exactly where they were going to eat, in the case that Dawn didn't like the average breakfast or something weird. People were weird, and kind of unpredictable. Asking wouldn't hurt, as far as Kris figured.

Oh what do we have here? Another techno-coloured freak. Salutations, ma’am.
"Good morning to you too, asshole. You act like I enjoy having wack-ass hair, you narrow fool. 'Sides, who are you to define if I'm freaky or not?"
[Text:] Hey, you have room for company? I need a place to crash, it will only be for a night I promise.
...
[Text:] Fine, I guess. Only 'cause I'm sorry for you. I'm not in New Bark, I hope you know. I've been staying in Celadan in the hotel, see 'ya later.
Oh he knew that she hated the nickname— that was the point, she called him a brat and he would call her Princess. Fair deal in his mind of ways that Ethan had and all, he just grinned and snickered at her. Watching that fiendish face fade ah that was the Princess he had come to know of course— though he didn’t know how long he could make her mad… he didn’t want to find out.
“Really you just met him? Yeah Kamon will always be the same no madder what,” Ethan shrugged his shoulders, she seemed real happy, he decided to shut his smart mouth around her to not ruin it… it was oddly cute, “Around? Traveling too huh?” He guessed, “Kid? What does he look like? Yeah I met a lot of people whom I have talked with— most are from that fancy place Unova.”
Kris shrugged the nickname thing off, not caring much for it. "Well, met up with him again--it's been too long since I've seen either of you two dorks."
"And the kid's a girl, actually. She's real nice, and she's from Sinnoh. I've come across a few people from Unova, I heard it's kind of really fancy there." Kris didn't care much for things that were of the elaborate and sophisticated nature, as it wasn't really her thing to get gussied up and go out and party and be rich and stuff. "But yeah, I've been traveling--all over Hoenn, it's a neat place if you've never been there. Warning you, it's really humid and your hair will puff up, a lot!" A seamless laugh comes from the trainer as she tugs her close companion into a hug. "It's been a while, kiddo!--Why don't we go get food or something? Hell, we can get frozen yogurt like we used to in Cherrygrove!"
He snorted right back, shrugging in reply “No problem Kris, Plus I’m pretty sure if I married you I would have Ethan breathing down my back because I married his ‘sister’ ” so yup, Kamon liked her much better.
Listening quietly he stuffed his hands in his pockets, hming and nodding as she talked. “I’ve been fine, I’m training to become apart of the Dragon Clan… Although I need a dragon to pass the final test, but I haven’t been able to really connect with one yet” he sighed, waving it off “But whatever, it’ll happen when it happens” he reached over, grabbing her phone and flipping it open “By the way, I finally got a phone, so here” he passed it back “I gave you my number, in case you want to chat or whatever, alright?” he huffed a little, his tsundere nature show proud and clear.
"I'm quivering in my shoes," popped Kris back instantly, though it was quiet and more as a smart-ass comment to herself. She never really cared too much for Rival, and she could care less what Ethan thought about her actions anyways.
"You have? Well, that's interesting. Congratulations, I hope you do well. I'm sure you'll be just fine." She hadn't known he would even care to be part of the Dragon Clan, though it was none of her business to have to know all the details.
"About time you got a phone." She was a bit taken aback when he grabbed for her phone, though she only gave a short, irritated look before snatching her phone back. "I'm sure I'll be well off without your company, as I have been for quite some time. Thank you anyways, Kamon. 'Sides, what are you even doing here so far from the Dragon's Den? Unless you're looking for a Dratini at the Game Corner, I've almost won one sometime a few years ago."
[Would anybody like a starter?]
“Good morning!”Yellow replied with a smile. This girl was oddly like her junior but she brushed it aside.”A sandwich? I have a granola bar but no sandwiches.”Yellow said sheepishly.”Would you like the granola bar? Oh and I’m Yellow.”the blonde said, shuffling through her knapsack and pulling out the small chocolate-y granola goodness and holding it out to Kris.
...
"No thank you. I'll pass." Though Kris was starving, she was mostly being sarcastic and not expecting anybody to offer her food. "It's nice to meet you, I suppose. What are you doing here, anyways? Most people don't really sit and hang out in the woods like this, unless you're just the kind that's just cool with that." Plopping down on the ground, she leaned against one of Ilex Forest's tree trunks. "Or if you're looking to entice me into a battle, I'm not interested." Shrugging, she closed her eyes and relaxed a bit. Though she was being rude to the unfamiliar kid, the ... girl? was nice, and innocent from what she could detect.
"You know what? I'll take that granola bar if you wouldn't mind. Where 'ya from, kiddo?" If Kris was asking you questions about yourself, that meant that you were either weird or deemed as trustworthy--or probably both.
Kris was definitely one of the more… Outspoken people the girl had met. Dawn had learned to deal with these people in time, but still found it difficult to keep a fair conversation between herself and the person in question. However, the girl she was talking to also seemed to have trouble communicating- from what Dawn could pick out, anyway.
“Yes, it did take a, ugh, while to get here.” Dawn spoke slowly, as if to not slip up or confuse her words- like she was prone to doing as of late. Kris had seemed to slow down her speech slightly, and her presence in general had levelled out during the conversation. Dawn’s shoulders were stiff, but relaxed at this fact- allowing her gaze to affix properly upon the girl.
Dawn raised her eyebrows marginally at the girl’s comment, smiling slightly as her eyes began to drift around somewhat- yet again. “Yes, Johto is a nice place. The people here seem friendly, at least.” The last part was rushed scarcely, almost added on as Dawn touched her forehead; making sure that what she said was correct. The girl’s mind did hazard a thought as to why Kris had not yet returned home herself, but Dawn decided not to act upon these thoughts. Everyone deserves privacy, after all.
Dawn lifted her head up from her hand as the girl spoke, widening her eyes and nodding gradually in agreement. “That might be nice- I’ve been walking all day.” She was slightly more flustered now that Kris had blatantly pointed it out, but she needed to rest somewhere soon anyway.
“Are we close to Goldenrod City yet? At least I think it’s…” The girl trailed off, eyes diverting back downwards for a moment. All the travelling had worn her out, and being flustered really didn’t help her speaking skills. She just hoped that Kris realized what she was trying to say.
She nodded slowly at Dawn's first statements, not saying much until she began raising questions. Kris noticed the foreign girl often double-checked to ensure that she wasn't messing up her words--which was quite odd, yet it was somewhat... cute. She couldn't think of it any other way, aside from it being almost childish or even sad in another light.
It surprised her that she would even think of someone in such a manner--nobody was ever cute or demeaning, like children or even people that normally would be considered 'attractive,' for instance--though Kris continued the conversation as to prevent an awkward seam in the flow of speaking back and forth.
To answer the darker-haired girl's question, she nodded. "Goldenrod's the next town over. We're actually north of it as we speak. There's not much too exciting there, besides maybe the Game Corner, though it's pretty noisy and filled with drunk idiots. There's a good place to eat a few blocks from here, if you'd prefer that." Though she normally would never have offered anyone lunch, not even her own close friends she familiarized herself with, she didn't go against herself at being kind to the stranger; something in her told her that perhaps Dawn wasn't too bad, and maybe she wouldn't be too much of a fuckover in the end.
Kris subconsciously toyed with the ends of her pink jacket--the same jacket that was a bit small on her for the past few years, particularly in the breast area, that had holes where she normally would grab at and pick at the fibers with her bitten-off fingernails (which was, sadly, an old habit she developed long ago). Now thinking about it, she quickly looked over the Sinnoh girl--she noticed that Dawn was particularly neat and trimmed, as if it hadn't been too long ago that she'd properly been able to groom her hair and the likes (the first thing she had noticed was hair, which she was naturally accustomed to at this point due to her innate jealousy of people with tamable hair on their head), and the Johto native immediately felt her cheeks grow warm in slight embarrassment, as she was nowhere near as clean-cut and lovely as Dawn was.
To avert from this obvious fact, the blue-haired girl gave a slight chin point towards her next destination. "They're serving breakfast still, I believe--maybe we should head towards there." Sticking her hands in her shorts pockets, she began walking away, step after step, knowing that it was likely the nervous girl would follow along--especially considering that it was implied Kris would be paying for her lunch.
