Few people coming to Costa Rica do not include fishing expeditions and as a matter of fact am I often asked if that is the main reason why I remain in Costa Rica. Who would not love this rush of catching the pride of the ocean, which according to me is Marlin fishing? Hundreds of rivers, magnificent lakes, and magical oceans where the species are in abundance. Why else do you find two national airlines providing daily services to anyone in the country who wants to fly from one fishing destination in the country to another?

One of Costa Rica Fishing top charter and fishing guides where you can experience excellent deep-sea fishing and information on the ultimate fly-fishing on the Naranjo and Mighty Savegre Rivers is Costa Rica Fishing. Although you will get an abundance of information on huge and smaller outfits do I suggest you try then first as they give, you the best guide. Relaxation at its best while floating down gorgeous rivers in the rainforest is an experience you do not want to miss. You will fish snook, roncadores, mojarra, Machaca, and even snapper and when you want the ultimate, you combine it with big game fishing.

A favorite destination is Quepos for excellent Marlin and sailfish. It is one of those destinations where you find fly fishing tournaments on two of the world’s most beautiful rivers. If you have not heard of the movie, Jurassic Park you must be from another planet that is for sure. What I want you to experience when in the jungle and taking a break from fishing while still exploring dazzling water adventures is Cocos island. In 1997, it was declared Unesco World Heritage Site and here is yellowfin Tuna, massive schools or jacks and hundreds of tiger sharks. I suggest that you try another favorite and highly recommended place Costa Rica Outdoors.

Nerve Shredding Road Trips

You might wonder why I suggest a road trip when you are an adventurous soul and adrenalin junkie, however the trips I am about to share with you are simply amazing and a must-do experience when in Costa Rica. When you are on vacation in Costa Rica, it is probable that you do not have your own transport. Therefore is it a great option to rent a car or 4 x 4 from one of the local car rental agencies such as Adobe.

One of my top recommendations is taking the trip in southern Costa Rica and driving to the Chirripo National Park. It is incredibly scenic, with narrow paths, enormous waterfalls along the way and in some spots will you gun along remnants of narrow concrete slabs, which are supposed to be road. Another top nerve shredder is the Mountain of death as the locals love to refer to it. It is the road of Cerro de la Muerte, which is a foggy, twisting mountain highway. I recommend that you take it early in the morning and drive on to Dota and sleeping over at one of my favorite places in the world called Dantica Lodge.

Then you have to take the road to Drake Bay, which most people take flights to, but you as adrenalin junkie would love. It is Costa Rica’s most remote town on southern Pacific Coast. This stunning trip is going through the rainforest towering above you and you will see more wildlife-roaming wild and free than anywhere else.

White Water Rafting

Nature lovers and adventure seekers will love the diversity that Costa Rica offers in White Water Rafting opportunities. The ideal times are from June through October when you want intense waters and tamer between November and through May. Some of the best destinations are Sarapiqui, Arenal, and Rurrialba. If you have never tried it, believe me when I say it is thrilling and spectacular indeed. White water rafting is fast growing to become the world’s top, exhilarating, and heart-pounding experience and a complete collage of sensations that cannot be rivalled by anything else.

It is a top Costa Rican adventure and specialty with the nation’s collection of criss crossing rivers. Very few people realize that white water rafting is one of the most fun and coolest methods to travel from one glorious town to another in Costa Rica. If you want to do, whitewater rafting en route you can travel easily between Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Puerto Viejo, and san Jose to name a few. Not only are you saving money of fuel, you also save a lot of time and at the same time have an incredible experience too.

Another excellent choice is the central pacific and even though few people realize it, is it a top destination with outstanding rapids. The most popular choices are taking tours from Manuel Antonio and Jaco and rafting out on Naranjo and Savegre Rivers. Even the Northern Lowlands and Arenal are top choices, as white water rafting is widely known as an Arenal Town specialty.

Rock Climbing, Waterfall Rappelling and Windsurfing

Two of Coast Rica’s emerging adrenalin junkie’s adventure sports include rock climbing and waterfall rappelling. Living in Costa Rice has opened my eyes to a whole new world with groups forming and property owners combining forces to make rock climbing possible. One of the town where rock climbing is hot is a small town outside Cartago called Cachi. Bouldering as rope less climbing is known is a growing sport in valleys and mountains close to San Gerardo de Dota, Cerro de la Muerte, and Chirripo.

Another top choice for adrenalin junkies is waterfall rappelling and that sure is the ultimate adventure. This is one of Costa Rica’s quintessential experiences and if you have not tried it, you are surely missing out on a top experience. Canyoning is another word that it goes by and nothing gives a greater rush that scaling mossy cliffs while roaring waterfalls are cascading over you. Another top adventure is windsurfing on Lake Arenal especially in the dry season from mid-December and through May.

This is one of the main reasons why I came to Costa Rica in the first place, and that is to do windsurfing as I have heard that you could enjoy continuous sixty miles per hour winds. It is not only top-notch windsurfing, but at the same time are you witnessing extraordinary beauty of incandescent lava and rock that flows down the volcano sides. You can even learn very well during the strong windy periods as it makes it ideal to start when the winds are steady and strong.

Costa Rican Adrenalin Junkie’s Guide

Welcome to your adrenalin junkie guide and this is my story that I would love to share with you. I am fortunate to live in one of the world’s most extraordinary places, which is Costa Rica. I came down here on a holiday nine years ago and yes, I am still here. Costa Rica is extraordinary beautiful and it is a place where all nature and adventure lovers can get their kicks for sure. One thing I have to tell you is that extreme sports around the world comes at a hefty price tag in most cases and in Costa Rica it is no exception either.

The upside however is that even though it has unbelievably beautiful and luxurious accommodations it has an abundance of budget hotels and cheap hostels as well. Thus is it possible to live on your shoestring budget while still splurging on your favorite extreme sports. Some of the tamer sports include scuba diving and this is something I suggest you do at least once when in Costa Rica.

Surfing is another must do activity and we have one of the world’s most famous destinations. This is only accessible from Parque Nacional Santa Rosa and taking a boat to Witch’s Rock will give you this magical break. This is not simply surfing the Pacific, as it is known in the surfing world as a world-class break that only the experienced surfers tackle. Even surfing the Caribbean especially Salsa Brava will require that you have all your skilled wits about you to walk away with your bones and board intact.
