Day Forty-Seven

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

MY LAST DAY. Started out with the Russian State of the Nation. Then the DOD briefing and the White House briefing. Had lunch with Brian Lamb and Susan Swain, which was cool. After all that, I just talked with the interns for a while until Jonelle came into Intern Alley to give me a hug, tell me she would write a letter of recommendation for me if I wanted one, and told me to say goodbye to the other producers. It was really sweet and everyone seemed so sincere in their goodbyes. This semester has been pretty cool and while I’m glad to be done in some respects, it’s still a bit bittersweet.

Day Forty-Six

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

Early start to cover the first two hours of the U.K. debate on airstrikes in Syria. After that, covered the Christian Science Monitor breakfast with John McCain. Then got started on graphics for tomorrow’s Russian State of the Nation and Friday’s Canadian Speech from the Throne.

Covered Obama’s press conference following the Paris Climate Change Conference this morning. Then started graphics for two events tomorrow and a script for one of them.

Monday, November 30th, 2015

Today Jonelle and I covered the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Paris. We did the opening remarks and the leader’s morning remarks. After finishing that up, I ESSed them both.

Covered the NATO Secretary General statement about the Russian plane that was downed by Turkey. Also finished ESSing the U.K. Youth Parliament and completed all that I can do with it.

Today started out slow. I started out with the House Speaker’s weekly briefing, then the House Minority Leader’s weekly briefing, and then the State Department daily briefing. Then I went home.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2015

Today was Prime Minister’s Questions & Hollande’s address to French mayors in the morning, and then Jonelle and I got to show some Brazilian congressmen around and take their questions. After that, I worked on making graphics for the Youth Parliament IDs and finished that up, then

Today I did PM Cameron’s statement to the House of Commons on the Paris Terrorist Attacks and G-20 Summit. Also started making graphics for the U.K. Youth Parliament from Friday. So. Many. Children. So. Many. Graphics.

Today I worked on Obama’s G20 Summit statement and the U.N. Security Council on the Syrian refugee crisis. Tick tocked, made scripts, and offered web clips for them.

Friday, November 13th, 2015

So since I didn’t go to work yesterday for class, I got to go in today. Jonelle and I took up the U.K.’s Youth Parliament with was kind of cool but also long. Then did a DOD briefing which focused on the recent airstrike the killed Jahadi John.

Today I finished updating the graphics for British members of parliament and covered an event hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center and Johns Hopkins University on the recent Turkish elections.

Day Thirty-Five

Tuesday, November 10th, 2015

Covered the AEI event with British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond. It was interesting because it was on conservative policy towards the environment and energy, but in a way that recognizes that climate change is real and needs to be dealt with.

The rest of the day I spend trying to fix some graphics for members of the British House of Commons.

Thursday, November 5th, 2015

Worked on the master Excel list of member of the British House of Commons. I like organizing so it wasn’t horrible, though my hand did start to hurt from too much computer after a while.

Two events today, the Senate Democratic Leader’s conference on spending bills and the White House Press Briefing. You can assume I did the usual things for those.

Day Thirty-Two

Wednesday, November 4th, 2015

Got in early for the Prime Minister’s Questions today. Same old same old. I like how Jeremy Corbyn said he didn’t want PMQs to be a sort of entertainment and should be taken seriously, yet he’s creating the ruckus. He’s blaming Cameron for bringing out drama that he is instigating by asking questions he knows he’s not going to get an answer on. Like a reporter at the State Department or DOD briefing, they’re not going to always get answers and trying to corner your opponent, especially a fluid talker like Cameron, is not really going to work.

After all that, Jonelle and I got a DOD briefing that we tick tocked and got ready to go out, then I started working on updating an excel worksheet to help producers during a live event of PMQs.

I only have a month left! Where did the time go?

Another mellow day. Covered (meaning tick tocked & made graphics) for the Democratic Leader’s Voting Rights thing and a Q&A with Labor Secretary Tim Perez. Then made graphics for tomorrow’s Prime Minister’s Questions and our possible covering of the Canadian Prime Minister Designate, Justin Trudeau, being sworn in.
