reblogging to my new art account !! 🌺
thinking about how i was in the american girl doll fashion show when i was a little girl and hid the only photo i have from the event in a safe location only to forget where that location is :(
i modeled josefina’s meet outfit & her pajamas, the experience was what first introduced me to her
let’s talk birthdays!
as we know, josefina’s birthday is march 19th! the feast day for san jose, the saint whom she was named after. his patronage includes the sick and dying, a fun connection with josefina’s call to be a curandera
while it’s been stated that the montoya sisters all share maria as a first name, i’ve been curious about their individual birthdays and secondary saint names too
now let’s discuss our lovely montoya sisters
clara montoya
the sensible and practical sibling, clara is the closest to josefina in age
the name clara originates from saint clare of assisi, her feast day being on august 11th
saint clare’s patronage includes embroidery and needlework which fits perfectly with clara
also an interesting connection to niña, the family doll who originated from their late mothers needlework, something that clara herself clings to
francisca montoya
the diva of the montoya family and my personal fav of the sisters lmao francisca is bold and a bit vain at times
the name francisca was popularized after saint francis of assisi, his feast day being october 4th
saint francis is the patron saint of ecology, animals, needlemakers, and italy!
although it’s a little harder to connect francisca with her patron saint, i do enjoy the needlemakers reference! very fashion orientated, something francisca values immensely. bonus points with italy being one of the fashion capitals of the world
ana montoya
the oldest of the montoya sisters, ana is devoted and kind. she’s one of the leading figures on the family property
ana’s name is a variation of saint anne, mother of mary. her feast day lands on july 26th!
she’s the patron saint of mothers, pregnant women, care providers, and loving homes, very fitting for our sweet ana
i just hope she doesn’t get older sister burnout! so glad she has the help of many others on the montoya rancho!
Francisca Montoya
“ When the girls appeared at last, it was easy to see who had won the argument. Francisca, looking pleased with herself, carried only a basket of laundry balanced on her head. “
