You grinned sheepishly. “You mean you don’t want to sponsor us?” He stared, blank faced for a moment before it clicked in his head. “Oh! To make up for your…” He floundered for a moment, clearly not wanting to mention your destroyed notes, “Sure, no problem! I was planning on buying the guys’ drinks too!”

Kuni peaked out from where he was scowling behind Ei. “Is Xiao here?” He blurted impatiently. Childe nodded pointing behind him vaguely. “Knowing him he’s probably in a corner, but yeah he’s here.”

Behind you, quiet giggles belonging to Yae reached your ears. Immediately, you knew what was about to happen. “We’re going to go on ahead, we’ll be back for drinks later,” Ei smirked, her hand dangerously low on Yae’s waist.

You snorted, waving the couple off. “Yeah, yeah, shoo shoo, love birds.” Both of them grinned, waving before rushing into the packed apartment.

Childe cleared his throat, grabbing your attention. His gloved hand was extended towards you, his expression much more charming than you remember.

It was cold. Even beneath your blankets, you felt as if you were constantly shivering, but you were too fatigued to even think of grabbing another blanket. You had taken a long bath last night and coupled with pain killers, all you wanted was to sleep away the lingering pain in your stomach.

Luckily, the cut on your forehead wasn’t deep and only required cleaning and a bandage. Your stomach, however? Well, you figured part of it could be hunger.

Sighing heavily, you turned over practically begging sleep to overtake you. Just as you felt yourself beginning to relax once again, there was a firm knocking at your door. You just barely resisted the urge to throw a fit and instead rolled out of bed and threw on a pair of sweatpants.

Ripping open the door, you were (pleasantly?) surprised to see Ei, Yae, and Kunikuzushi standing before you, bags in hand. They grinned cheerfully, minus Kuni, even while staring at your disheveled dorm.

“Good morning, stardust! How ya feeling?” You could only watch as Yae pranced into your apartment, setting the bags down on the counter. Ei, a bit calmer than her lover, walked up to you, her smile concerned.

“You weren’t sleeping, were you? You look exhausted,” She murmured. You cleared your throat and shook your head. “O-oh, no, I was just getting up,” You lied.

Kuni passed you by, drinks in hand. “Liar. Anyways, we brought breakfast so-“ Despite him calling you out, you interrupted him by pulling the three of them into a hug.

“Thank you, guys, really. I was so rude last night and now you’re all bringing me breakfast and-“ Yae placed a hand on your shoulder. “Hey. You had a long night last night. We’re not holding it against you. We also know you probably haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday,” She muttered.

I laughed sheepishly as I let them go. “I wasn’t hungry…” Ei dangled a box of assorted breakfast sweets, including milk bread, in front of me with a smirk.

“And now?” She questioned teasingly. I couldn’t help my grin as we all dug in. “We also got milk tea~” Yae announced, holding one towards me. My eyes lit up as I eagerly reached for it.

“You guys are spoiling me!” I grinned, taking a sip. Kuni smirked, his eyes rolling. “That’s what I said!” I playfully punched his shoulder, but offered him a sip. He gave me a look, but couldn’t resist taking a sip.

“Eat up, everyone! We have big plans!” Yae announced, her expression practically devious. “What are you talking about…?” I questioned. Ei flashed me smirk as she pointed to the last bag by my door. It was a suitcase. The suitcase.

“We’re going out!”

In the back of your head, you know what she did. She kicked you in the liver with all that she had so that she didn’t go down alone. It was cruel, but in a way you knew you’d understand it. Later, though, definitely not now.

“Yn, are you alright? Yn?” You painstakingly lifted yourself up onto your knees as the ref’s voice got closer to you. As much as you wanted to curl up, you knew that there could be dispute over the true winner if you stayed down for too long.

“I’m… I’m fine.” He’s shot you a nervous look, but moved to help you up. Not wanting to seem weak, you waved his hand off, determined to stand up on your own two. And it paid off too. The moment you did, the arena burst into cheers.

Truly, it almost made you feel better about letting Yelan get that last kick in. Almost. Before you knew, your arm was being raised as you were announced the winner. It took everything in you to raise your index finger and smile, but you were sure it was more of a grimace.

You had won, but somehow you still felt like a failure.

The atmosphere of the cafe was serene, even with it being early in the morning. Still, you had to resist the urge to bang your head against the table. There was nothing you disliked more than having statistical physics homework in the morning. Even as you sipped on your milk tea, you could just feel your braincells disintegrating.

Sometimes you just had to wonder why you picked astronomy to love, but as you got closer to finishing your notes, you remembered. The feeling of accomplishment began to build inside you and you leaned back, releasing a yawn.

The sound of bells harshly jingling startled you and drew your attention to the door. Four guys walked in, all laughing and joking with each other. You sighed, wishing the peace a farewell.

Almost as if feeling your gaze on him, the tall ginger turned towards you. You felt your face warm and you quickly turned away. He was beyond attractive. You had just barely repressed the urge to shake your head to rid yourself of the thoughts, when you heard them beginning to order.

Exhaling, you turned your focus back to your work. You weren’t here for them and they weren’t here for you, in fact you still had to wrap up your notes and then take pictures of them. Your friends always questioned why you did paper notes if you were going to put them in a drive in your laptop, but your answer was always the same. The writing repetition helped you retain the information.

Even though you were telling yourself to focus, you found your gaze drifting towards them again. This time, the ginger was staring directly at you. He offered you a small wave, surprising your further. Rather than return the gesture, you ducked your head, embarrassed by how easily he flustered you.

Luckily, that seemed to be the exact motivation you needed. Writing furiously, you ignored the group that you knew was getting closer. It quickly became impossible to ignore, however, when you heard a set of footsteps coming directly your way.

You lifted your head from your notebook, and you swore everything was moving in slow motion. The ginger stepped closer, his grin wide and hand up. His eyes were solely on you as he approached, a coffee in hand.

“Hey! I’m Chil-“ Time seemed to move even slower as he stepped directly into your bag. And before you could even react, the large coffee was slipping from his finger.

And towards you.

The cup landed directly onto your notebook and onto you as well. The scalding liquid seeped through your clothes and the pages of your work as one phrase echoed through your mind.
