Headcanons: Speech and Living Habits
Gojira’s means of communication and speech patterns change from verse to verse. Here are the headcanons for this particular blog’s methods of both.
Main verse (Daikaiju): Gojira’s primary and really only way of communication is telepathy. In a lot of the Heisei movies, as well a couple Showa era movies, Telepathy and mental communication has been shown to be an effective means of controlling, understanding, and/or communicating with Gojira. Through the course of all of this, Gojira has learned to actively project her thoughts unto others in the forme of a sort of mental communication, be it one on one, or to multiple beings at once. Gojira’s main area of living is the Japan Trench, though she will often travel between there, Odo Island’s waters, and Lagos Island, aka Monster Island, one of the suspected places of Origin of Gojira.
Alt Verse (Monmusu): Capable of human speech as what humans refer to as a “monster girl”, Gojira has no difficulty speaking her mind. Here, it mostly her speech patterns. Living in Japan, in the world of humans and technology, Gojira is fluent in English and Japanese, as they are the two main languages she has had exposure to. When speaking English, she has an accent, of what most Japanese residents sound like when speaking English as a second language. Her native dialect is the “standard” Tokyo dialect, as her residence in Tokyo Bay and often appearance in Tokyo has affected her enough to pick up their dialect the most, despite not actually spending most of her time there. Gojira is traditional in her ways of speech here, and does not speak with contractions, and is mostly polite and quite upstanding despite being a monster. Gojira, here, spends a lot of her time on Odo Island, an island within the Bonin Islands of Japan, often on the beaches, concealed within the rocks as best she can. Other places include a massive den deep inside of Tokyo Bay, an island commonly referred to as Monster Island, and sometimes, Tokyo Harbour, if she is lucky enough to not be spotted before she makes it there.
Touhou verse (Monmusu/Daikaiju shift): Gojira here is relatively the same as the Alt verse, however there are a couple differences. For one, she is quite the kuudere and doesn’t particularly care for anyone, save for a couple people. Her temper is much shorter, and she speaks with a more crude tone of voice. She is rather uptight and stuck up, but not a bad person by any means. Her time here is spent mostly either in Utsuho’s reactor or a den deep under a large lake in the Forest of Magic. She will often encounter the Mermaid, Wakasagihime, and tell her stories of her past, and get really into it.
Similarly, both the Touhou verse and Monmusu verse alternates are capable of telepathic speech, but do not use it nearly as often when they speak with someone who is capable of audible communication.
