Knows more Eminem lyrics than he’s willing to admit. His favourite song would be Superman, cause you know he thinks he’s That Guy.
Lost his religion growing up. It’s force of habit to pray when he’s scared.
Takes after Will. Poor man sees a monster for more than one reason when he looks in the mirror.
Has been to One (1) concert ever and it’s was a Motörhead concert he snuck in to.
A fave is Ace of Spades.
Was perma-banned from nearly every bar in Georgia.
Tried to protect Daryl; ended up growing into part of the problem. Didn’t realize till later in life when it was too late, due to drug induced memory loss and/or his own trauma.
Cops have always been violent with him, whether he was innocent or not. Grimes was not new experience—but added to a long history.
Beefed with Shane constantly before The Rooftop—duh they didn’t like each-other, but I like to think Merle would be lippy just for the hell of it. Just to piss the pig off for fun. Definitely flirted with Lori when he realized Shane and her had a thing.
Had to relearn how to use his arm on his own; god knows Gov didn’t provide that level of support (comparing to Hershel or Aaron with Ricks group)
Chews when he’s anxious; nails, tongue, cheek, etc. Grinds his teeth in his sleep.
Carol genuinely freaked him the fuck out (deleted scene) cause who is this tiny soft spoken woman threatening violence. Since when does Daryl have friends to this degree? Respect tho.
Actually cared about Andrea, especially after she started trying to help him and held her ground to his shit. Probably not romantic, but she had at least had some his respect.
The meth started from weed.
Whiskey guy but hates Fireball.
The racism and misogyny was learned behaviour and fear response. I won’t go into it here, but I could talk for hours on it. He had too much remorse in his eyes to have really meant it.
Taught himself to drive; later taught Daryl.
A bully in school. Everybody feared him, he’d use it to his advantage.
Talked back to his higher ups in the military.

Terrible eyesight, probably needs glasses. Wont admit it, but stand more than 10 feet away and he can’t fuckin see you—you’re a blob of colour—but that’s not him, that’s you, duh, why are you so far away?
The kind of person that writes in all caps for some reason—like “WENT TO STORE. BACK SOON.” “MILK BAD” “DOC APT. 10AM” type shit.
Hates raccoons, thinks they’re plotting little bastards. Sketchy little fuckers.

Probably worked little jobs here and there at mechanic shops—probably would’ve had his own shop if he could’ve.
Has phantom pain in his arm. The cold makes the stump ache.
Had a therapist in prison, it didn’t work much but they tried to diagnose, probably something along the lines of sociopathic tendencies and anger management, alongside substance abuse.
That’s it for now, a lot of these are just passing thoughts I’ve had about him, given we didn’t get much of him or his lore/person in the show. I wish we’d gotten to know him better.
