rewatching dr stone and i think it’s a little funny but also revealing of senku’s character that his very first hypothesis about what caused the worldwide petrification was ALIENS. the (arguably) more logical first guess would be something like his other two ideas (a military weapon or a virus) but instead his very first thought was hmmm what if aliens had something to do with it…

that bit on its own gives so much insight into the imaginative and creative side of senku. theres so many follow up questions that could be asked: does senku believe that there’s a valid basis for the existence of alien life? in admitting that there is a fantastical nature of the petrification (at least on the surface), did he momentarily give into or humour the fantasy idea through his alien hypothesis? or was it moreso a hypothesis that was made jokingly through that brief fantasy sci-fi association?

Senku loves Doraemon, which is filled with time travels and high-tech gadgets and aliens (esp the movies), so I think he loves imagining aliens existing. He knows for a fact that humans are not the only intelligent species, and with how vast the universe is, he wouldnt be one millimeter surprised by the existence of aliens

the whole "insulting someone based on their appearance is bad because it could indirectly hurt people you like who share that feature" is a good start for unlearning body shaming but i do think we need to go further and remind people that even if there was some physical trait that was magically 10000% exclusive to conservatives and creeps and nobody else ever had it, we still shouldnt be insulting them based on that. because the problem with them is not their appearance its their ideology and actions. by insulting their appearance you arent just indirectly insulting others who look like that, youre literally not making the correct point. stay on topic ya know.

it bothers me when someone brings up misogyny in shounen anime and people shrug it off with "its designed for teenage boys, what can you expect." like well. idk i think its actually pretty important that shows for teenage boys are normal about women. i mean i think all media should be normal about women but teenagers are impressionable i think we could put a little bit of feminism in the teenage boy shows. it might do some good. you never know.

i will never stop loving how dr stone gives us a stoic supergenius protagonist who's always idolizing science and logic and stuff and then instead of going the easy route and using that framework of cold logic to make him some aloof holier-than-thou figure who's above such petty things as "emotions" and "friendship" the show goes no! senku is actually a deeply compassionate person because that is in fact the logical conclusion to come to. there is no such thing as a lone genius. science is a collaborative effort, built upon the shoulders of those who came before. all of senku's vast mountains of knowledge would amount to absolutely nothing if it wasn't backed up by taiju's strength, yuzuriha and kaseki's crafting skills, chrome's ingenuity, the practical experience of people like ukyo and ryusui, the many individual skills of each and every person in the kingdom of science, the tens of thousands of years of human progress it took to build up those stores of knowledge in the first place, and the eternal faith and support of his father byakuya. every action senku takes is not simply borne out of devotion to science, but out of devotion to this specific understanding of science - the understanding that scientific progress is inextricably linked to society itself and that one cannot exist without the other. senku may be the smartest man alive (not to mention the de facto leader of humanity's remains), but he still recognizes that he is only a single man, no more or less important to humanity's survival than anyone around him.
