"The world will never know another man as amazing as you."
I dedicate this piece for Joey, his family and friends, and everyone who is grieving today. Even though he is gone he will never be forgotten. We will never forget you Joey. You will always live on through music, videos, pictures and memories.

heya friend, what are your thought on allegorical interpretations of religion? if you take away the magic and consider the historical context, it basically just gives you a community and a rough guide for living well. what might be considered archaic and menial ritualistic practices such as prayer and meditation promote self-mastery and provide time for reflection. spiritual leaders can provide guidance and comfort by listening to and supporting their community. surely there's some benefit?
But the harm caused by religion certainly outweighs the good. 😣
You can add up all the deaths caused by stupid religious wars but can you quantify the lives saved by mercy and love that is promulgated by the followers of true peaceful teachings of Christ, Buddha or any other pacifists?
There is no peach to be had in Christianity.
I’m sorry you feel that way. You must have had a terrible experience at some time. I too was assailed by many fire and brim stone hypocrites that nearly made me turn away. That is, until I realized that they were the confused ones. Spouting off their own interpretation which was tainted by hate and fear.
If god’s words are “open to interpretation” can any of them be really considered true? I mean you could literally take the most vile, detestable and deplorable parts of the Bible and say it’s simply “open to interpretation” to sidestep the fact that the Bible condones many, many acts that a logical person would consider immoral.
Oh, and the terrible experience was being burned on the shoulder…ya… 🔥😣🔥
Any written word is open to interpretation. I used to marvel at how during English lit class when we were assigned the task of interpreting what the author was trying to convey, that how many differing ideas were posed by the students. As for condoning immoral acts in the Bible, I believe that Christ came to us not only to give us a better way to heaven but also to clear up the many inconsistencies within the Old Testament. For example, an eye for an eye becomes turn the other cheek. Our way is not to believe in the exact words but to have faith that the holy spirit will guide us to understand the true meaning which is founded in love, mercy and forgiveness. My father used to tell me not to let the bastards wear me down. Hold on to the faith and don’t let people change you. I respect your decision not to believe and my wish is to not be belittled by someone because of my thoughts and ideas.
Have you actually seen this “Holy Spirit”? 🤔
I have been guided inexplicably by something that I call the Holy Spirit. I have many instances of this happening to the point that to call it coincidence would be absurd. Even witnessed by an atheist friend who still called it coincidence after he challenged and it occurred. We can’t see or measure yet it exists. I don’t push this on anyone to believe, I just live it, between me and God.
A god who would gleefully damn you for eternity for just eating pork. Even if a god did exist, I would never worship it.
And you still didn’t answer my question. Have you SEEN this spirit, do you have any tangible proof?
My God doesn’t damn me for eating pork. So back to your question. When you drop an object and it falls to the ground, did you SEE gravity? No, you saw the phenomenon that gravity causes. When I sat first in line at a red light and when it turned green (I was 21 years old, always punched the pedal, always in a hurry, always honked if the line didn’t move on green) and for no apparent reason sat there for at least 3 seconds, guy behind me laying on his horn, when suddenly out of nowhere it seemed, a car ran the red light doing 70 MPH crossed in front of me. I would have been killed, or the horn guy behind me (his mouth and eyes were ovals in surprise after seeing that). At the time, I doubted the existence of God too. I don’t know what stopped me from driving into that disaster but it was real and it happened. It almost felt like my body and brain were put on pause just for those few seconds. Why? I don’t know. This is but one example of many. Was it my grandma and mom praying for my safety day in and day out? Was it just coincidence? There have been many times after this instance that weird stuff happens to me and with witnesses. I certainly don’t think I’m special. I certainly don’t think I deserve it. Yet….
Oh, so it’s just YOUR god? How self centered do you have to be to think that, if a god did exist, he would be concerned with any particular human’s life? I believe Dawkins called that a “personal god”. So, rather than helping rape victims or starving children, YOUR god decided to help one specific human not get hit? It was purely a matter of luck that your survived, there’s no need to throw in divine intervention. The very fact that you think YOUR god won’t damn you for eating pork, which is a big no-no in the Bible, shows just how flimsy Christianity is as a whole.
We can measure and witness the effects of gravity, just as we can study and witness the results of evolution (thus it’s NOT “just a theory”). All of human knowledge points to the non-existence of gods, Christian or otherwise. Prayer has never, ever once saved a life, but science has increased the overall human life-span by 12 years!
Well when we say my God I mean the god I believe in not “mine” possessive.
I’ll get to your other comments later. I’m too busy right now.
So you think there are multiple Christian gods?
Isn’t one of the big no-nos of Christianity that you can have no other god but the “true” Christian god? Your logic is just getting more and more ridiculous by the day.
By the way, I’m sorry to say, your descriptions of the Bible are glibly ignorant. I don’t mean this as an insult, just obvious.
Which Bible? The original written in Islamic languages, the Roman translated version, or the Barnes and Noble easy-reader edition Bible?
No sense in debating or arguing with a theist about this subject. They tend to suffer from what is called "cognitive dissonance"... in essence it is when someone's feelings and emotions are tied so tightly to their beliefs that they are will to ignore and deny evidence, facts and even proof that may demonstrate those beliefs to not be true or accurate...
The fact this theist is willing to say "God doesn't damn me for eating pork" just shows how "glibly ignorant" they are of their own holy book. And to claim it's all open to interpretation is just the biggest cop out a theist can have about the atrocities their "all loving god" is responsible for. Right next to: "you're taking it out of context". I'd like to know how to interpret rape and forced marriage to the rapist as a good and righteous thing? I'd like to know, in what context, is owning slaves and beating them as long as they don't die; is to be considered a holy moral value. And stoning to death your bad children for that matter... I could go on but of course they'll use another contradictory argument saying "that's the OT, Jesus changed all that"..... when even Christ himself said not a jot nor tittle of the old laws shall change. And when it's obvious we are, supposedly, still held to these old laws; and Christ is just a conduit for forgiveness for breaking these "laws"..... and which bible indeed, I'd like to know how such a "true message" has accumulated dozens of different "versions" and interpretations of those versions of the same truth....... it may be a good story, and MAY have inspired great things, yet it has also inspired just as many, if not more, deplorable things in history. But till some credible evidence comes up, it'll remain just that; a story.
