Dedrick and I met freshman year of HS back in 08 We each had a partner but one day our partners cheated on us with each other!!! Dedrick and I became very good friends and it remained at that.

2009-2010 Sophomore year, he gets back with the girl and she cheats on him again 🙄. We grew slightly closer but he took her back and I remained single.

2010-2011 Junior year, I got into a relationship that I just KNEW was going to last forever. He went through a series of relationships junior year but none of them stook. We still remained close friends though and kept it at that.

2011-2012 Senior year, the dynamic of our relationship changed. I still had the same bf but Dedrick began to show more intense feelings towards me. I wanted him too but I was still in a relationship. We had agreed that he could move on and start a new relationship with someone else. I was hurt but there was nothing I could do, I still had the same bf. We joked about the song Next Lifetime by Erykah Badu but it was the EXACT situation we were facing.

2013: In March, Dedrick and I fell out for 3 months because his gf at the time and I had gotten into an argument. During that break of talking, my bf at the time broke up with me and Dedrick broke up with his gf at the time. Neither of us knew the others relationship status because we weren’t talking. 3 months went by and it was the longest that we had ever gone without talking to each other since 08 and this was 2013. We finally hashed it out on my mommas birthday and we’ve been together ever since. 3 apartments, a house, a cat AND a dog and we couldn’t be happier. Sorry for the long ass story but I never get to tell it all the way through.

I feel like we went through years of not being with each other because we were getting prepared for each other, without even knowing it. Building a friendship first is worth it.
