RAFFLE!
On September 28th, my nation lost Joyce Echaquan, a mother of seven. She was murdered, overdosed with a medication she was allergic to while being submitted to racist comments by the nurses.
My financial situation right now keeps me from being able make a donation to her family, but I felt like I had to do something. I may not have known her personally, but I am Atikamekw like she was, and it inevitably hits home.
In order to raise funds, I planned this little raffle for the chance to get a hand on this painting I made after learning what had happened. As an artist, this was a way for me to express the sadness that I felt, but also to represent the healing process that comes with every loss.
Winner will be picked randomly on Saturday October 10th at 5PM (EST).
Here’s how to enter:
1. You must make a donation to the GoFundMe for Joyce’s family (link in my bio). Any amount is permitted, I know these times are hard financially for a lot of us.
2. You must send me proof of your donation via email ([email protected]) to be entered. Censor any sensitive information.
3. If you cannot make a donation, please take the time to share in order to bring more visibility and possibly more donations.
This happened about two hours drive from where I live. I know I don't have many followers but if anybody can donate the money will go to the children of Joyce. For more info she lost her life in hospital under some horrible circumstances which she live streamed to Facebook. That was how her family found out.. they saw a Facebook live video of her calling for help and being mistreated by the staff. By the time family arrived at the hospital she had passed already. Systemic racism towards indigenous people is alive and well in Quebec despite what our government may think. Her seven children are now without their mother.
