I finally watched Game of Thrones !
Ok. Recently I started, binged and finished Game of Thrones from start to finish. It was my third time trying to get passed the 2nd season and I finally did it. I think I was never able to get further because it was a hard concept for me to dive into. I mean, Medieval times was never really my thing. Something about the lack of morality, and the dirty and dark nature of that time period has always just turned me off. Plus, I bet everyone smelled bloody rancid.
Anyway, I must say that I’ve absolutely enjoyed this show. It is well written, very well performed, and the rawness is super addicting. For example, there’s this thing where I’ll get goosebumps when I completely understand what is going on just through observing the non-verbal cues of the actors. Their eyes and their faces tell the entire story and I find that so amazing. You really don’t see that too often. No matter how boring or juicy the storyline, this acting will be forever entertaining.
I’m especially impressed by Tyrion Lannister. I’m sure it’s well known by now but he definitely makes the show. His wit and intelligence makes me feel like a scholar just by being able to understanding him and his mind. Given, the writers are the real masterminds behind Tyrion’s wit, but there’s something about watching someone escape death with only their words which is so inspiring. I get that feeling too when I watch House of Cards and hear Frank Underwood expressing his thoughts. It’s like that feeling you have whenever you're sharing a room with people who are smarter than you, and wanting nothing more than to prolong the conversation for as long as possible.
Finally, the way that the show is set up, is super interesting because you get to know each character as they live separate lives throughout the series. Some characters you despise, others you love. But sure enough, you end up empathizing with almost everyone despite the wrongs they’ve done in the past.
Once you see enough of someone, you get to understand their depth. You get to see their humanity and no longer do you perceive them as just black and white, but as a deeper human being with feelings and real emotions.
And it’s such a bizarre feeling when actors are able to pull off making you feel something so real.
Eventually what really gets my heart racing is seeing these same characters that were once miles away from each other, begin to intermingle and even fight one another. Like, I can’t explain the emotions that are experienced. You’re witnessing people you’ve started to love, and empathize with, now fight to the death. It’s like your mind starts to get confused and thinks, “what’s going on here?? This is wrong! Somebody put a stop to this!”
It literally fucks up your brain. But it feels, so good.
HBO is absolutely killing it and has produced some of the best television I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t already, I would definitely give this show a chance. (Or like in my case, another shot)
To quote my friends who finally got me to watch the show after years of procrastination, “just fucking watch it!”
