Oct 30th - Nov 1st " The Crucible " Enter Recruits exit a Marines. Please keep my son Nathaniel in your prayers. Semper Gumby Dad Friends and Family.... This morning, October 30th at 2:00am PST, my beloved son Nathaniel will start the Crucible. The Crucible is a test every recruit must go through to become a Marine. It tests the recruit physically, mentally, and morally and is the defining experience of recruit training. It takes place over 54 hours and includes food and sleep deprivation, and over 45 miles of marching while carrying a 45lb. rucksack. The Crucible event pits teams of recruits against a barrage of day and night events requiring every recruit to work together to solve problems, overcome obstacles, and help each other along the way. There will be 36 warrior stations, 29 problem solving exercises, about 6-8 hours of sleep and 2.5 meals. The Crucible will end on Thursday morning at approximately 8:00am PST when he and his fellow recruits will have earned the title United States Marine. It is tradition for family and friends of recruits to keep a candle lit during the entirety of the Crucible, showing their support for the soon-to-be Marine. Some families may put a lit candle in their window, or turn on their recruit’s bedroom light to help guide them “home” and give them strength to get through the event. Others may keep their porch light on the entire time. I ask of you to please show your support for Nathaniel by lighting a candle or keeping your own porch light on.
