101 WINES BEFORE YOU DIE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

My name is Danielle but I go by Dani. I was born and raised in the Sonoma/ Napa Valley in California and I have become a wine and food junky. I am currently Active Duty Army but I am coming to the end of this road and I am going to retire after 20 years. The military has given me the opportunity to live, work and travel all over the world. I travel, taste wine and eat food every chance I can and I just want to share my travels. I am a single girl with two dogs (Amber the Husky and Toby the white German Shepard) and I am currently stationed in the desert of Southern California (the dust bowl). PONTE FAMILY ESTATE WINERY

  As you walk in to the tasting room, you are greeted by a large boutique market for all of the fun wine gifts that you can only find at wineries.  The space is large and the tasting room has two bars on each side.  I recommend that you try wine tasting on Fridays instead of the weekend; you will have a better experience.  It was a Friday (with a event going on), so only one side was open but still they had a nice crowd of people bellied up to the bar.  (Make sure that you have patience when you go wine tasking, when it is your turn the staff will spend quality time with you talking about their wines.  The more you talk and ask questions the better experience you will be. Do not be afraid to tell the staff if you are a beginner and tell them a little something about yourself because they will match you with the right wines to start.)  This is a great winery if you are beginner or a junky like myself.  They offer sparking, whites, reds, and the sweet desert wines and the will find a match for everyone.  Within minutes, Jennifer greeted me and she started me off with my six-stamp wine tasting card and my first pour (very generous) with 2013 Pinot Grigio (this was a nice summer wine that was very light with a smooth finish).  I was bellied up next to two wine club members that were hanging out for the day and a couple, the beginner (no wine and only beer guy) and a member , so the conversation was great.  Enjoy the ice water and great plate cleansing tasty treats that they provide. Everyone to include Jennifer recommend the Vermentino 2013 (a great dry white but it had a sweet nose, and yes I took this home) and the Super T 2011 (A nice red blend that has a smooth front and a peppery end that will pair well with almost anything, I also took this one home).  Just make sure to tell Jennifer that if you are just tasting to pour a little light but if you are there to spend the day enjoy hanging out with Jennifer and she will keep you company all day.
