This blog's purpose is for me to be annoying about DMC2 without cluttering my blog, that is already lacking in the "recently posted art" department. Unfortunately, it will also feature my poor attempts at trying to understand the Japanese language the old fashioned way...by researching through so many sites! Since I don't think anyone else would even bother trying...
With the citizens of Vie De Marli being descendants of refugees from the Mediterranean Sea, I think its safe to say that they're of MENA (which is honestly a huge can of worms given the recent issue with dmc netflix, I don't think the developers have any ill intent but it's crazy to think about a person who is of middle eastern heritage actually having a relationship with and worshipping demons. But the people who came from there have pre-islamic beliefs so maybe it's different? ), Greco-Roman and Indigenous South American heritage.
That isn't to say there may be other races and people with different ethnic backgrounds they have intermingled with.
Had to do google translate, I couldn't take it anymore dude. I need to learn more japanese before jumping into stuff like this.
The Power of Bonds Over Destiny
A servant of the devil, created by demonic power. A cursed being, nothing more than a doll. That is the true identity of Lucia, the protagonist of this story.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Arius reveals her secret. Until then, Lucia had been in the position of a "fighting hero" like Dante, but she becomes a "suffering heroine," struggling with her own abominable destiny. She wasn't Matier's daughter.
She wasn't like Dante. Moreover, she wasn't even human... "Destiny" refers to a fate predetermined before birth. Lucia's birth as a demon is undoubtedly destiny.
Perhaps the fact that Matier, whom she deeply loved, wasn't her mother was what tormented Lucia the most. Blood ties are absolute and unchangeable. Connections like parent-child, sibling, and clan truly hold a fated meaning.
However, looking at the real world we live in, Lucia's obsession with blood ties can sometimes become an inescapable curse. This is because tragedies occur where parents torment their children, and children torment their parents, and sometimes even result in them killing each other.
Is the unchangeable destiny of blood ties really that important?
Is that everything to Lucia?
Matier gave Lucia more than just the technique to repel demons. Of course, she didn't just raise her within the framework of a parent-child relationship. She must have also generously given her the love a mother has for her daughter. hat is a sure bond of the heart, not bound by blood ties. It is a newly created "absolute" thing that cannot be determined by fate.
Dante's position watching over Lucia is very unique. He is an ambiguous being, born between a human and a demon, neither one nor the other. However, he is the most human of all the characters. He empathizes with Lucia and Matier, yet he chooses not to voice it. He is a creature with two sides, light and shadow. A creature that restrains itself with its heart, a creature that can sometimes connect with others beyond its species. That is none other than a human being.
At the climax of the story, Dante appears like Lucia's brother, or even a father, because his caring heart for them is subtly evident.
Even though they are not related by blood, and are even different beings, Dante, Lucia, and Matier had undeniably become "family."
Ultimately, the answer Lucia sought was already there when she began her internal struggle. One cannot suffer without a heart, there is indeed a "bond of the heart" residing within Lucia.
There may be errors because, well, its google. Hopefully I'll be able to master this language one day, but I got so impatient, even though I have trust issues with google translate.

This’ll give somebody who's an expert in the Japanese language a severe case of cephalalgia. Unfortunately, I am impatient and I doubt anyone is going to care enough about DMC 2 to translate the original dialogue. So I may aswell Try to understand it myself.
Please do not take this as “accurate” information, I barely know any Japanese and it will take years for me to finally remember all of the letters of Hiragana. I would like some insight from someone who actually knows what Dante is saying.
I've been thinking about this aspect of Lucia's character a whole lot.
If we go by her disc and the edited fan translation for BTN, she is insecure about her abilities and position as a priestess, not only is she "the newest of the guardians", she had to rely on Dante, an outsider, for help.
Vie De Marli got me to look up paganism. Which makes the lore of DMC all the more curious. Christians burn down and desecrated the sites and cities to rid of those with a different worldview. The gods of those believers are labeled as "devil worshippers."
