Old-School Mumbai Taxis Get Made Over with @taxifabric
To peek into more of these taxicab interiors, follow @taxifabric on Instagram.
Sanket Avlani (@taxifabric) creates something extraordinary in the most pedestrian and overlooked of places: the dated grey interior of the ubiquitous Mumbai taxis. “It wasn’t engaging enough,” Mumbai designer Sanket explains. Now, getting into one of the 25 made-over taxis is like stepping into another world.
The use of color and imagery in fabric is almost psychedelic, making the journey literally and figuratively transporting, but the collective also has a social mission: “We’ve been working with designers who’ve done research on social work and social good but relevant to a taxi,” Sanket says. “For example, there is a cab we decorated with Indian sign language. That’s very special to me. We drove it to the school for the deaf and interacted with the children — just those reactions!”

VAN EYCK
I lost it at the end.
Okay, I had to check out the Van Eyck thing. I was a bit in denial because, come on, every single person can’t look like President Putin!
There are no words to describe how wrong I was.
