Lardo noticing how Jack only thinks about two things, which are hockey and Bitty. And at first she doesn’t think anything of it because his thoughts are mostly annoyed at him (at first), and then not romantic at all.

But then she notices how often Bitty comes up in Jack’s thoughts, in contrary to literally everyone else, and she’s like “… dude.”

I really want to write on this more now that you have me thinking about it…) Everyone on campus was always talking about the Men’s Hockey Team.  It wasn’t even that they were really good–they were a good team, but that wasn’t the point– it was that they were practically made of celebrities. Well, there were two celebrities on the team, and that was two more celebrities than any other team on campus had, so they were routinely featured in the Daily. Stuff from the stream

I was popping in and out of the stream this afternoon so this is just the big stuff that I heard. If people were there longer, feel free to add in details that I missed.

1. Jack didn’t know first. In fact, Jack doesn’t “know” yet at all. Jack, as quoted by @itsybittle,​ has the emotional range of a teaspoon. He likes Bitty a lot more than he used to, and he’s aware of that, but Jack has a very low emotional IQ and doesn’t yet realize just how happy Bitty makes him. (But he will figure it out eventually of course).

2. Bitty has been here before. Because of his upbringing, whenever he did have feelings for someone, the person was usually straight (or perceived as such), and Bitty felt the need to strongly repress his feelings in order to get by. He actually got this trait from his father.

3. Coach loves Bitty. He’s not just a straight Bible-thumping southern homophobe. He’s very smart (football coach in the south), and he notices that his son is different (the Beyonce, the baking, etc). They have a lot more in common than they’d like to admit (like the repressed emotions), but their relationship is still somewhat strained.

4. Jack would be Coach’s ideal son. Coach and Jack would get along very well, and Coach sees Jack as a model of athleticism and someone he would like to coach if he got the chance. As a football coach, he is fascinated by all sports, and so over July break when Jack visits, they presumably talk a lot.

5. Ngozi reminds us that guys can do stuff like platonic coffee dates and platonic hang outs and baking and stuff. The only difference with Jack and Bitty is that they started off hating each other, but then quickly became very close. Bitty sees something like Jack’s relationship with the other guys on the team as charming, but something he can never have with Jack, which makes him sad.

That’s all I remember right now. If you were there, feel free to add anything I missed. (I love the streams but I’m a busy woman alright).
