â"He taught me that much already; concentrate on the fear of my patientsâ suffering, and that will get the ring to make decent medical equipment.â She shrugged. âBesides, Iâm the only doctor around here⌠so at least someone will want me aroundâŚâ
âLots of people still want you around. The Green Lantern Corps would take you back, you arenât the one whose burned those bridges.â Hal set a hand on her shoulder, squeezed. âThereâs no shame in helping people, no matter what ring youâre in.â
Soranik leaned into Halâs touch. âIâd heard from Iolande... it seems the sector doesnât trust me that much anymore. If I couldnât save my home...â She takes a shuddering breath. âToo many of them think Iâll fail them too.âÂ
She shook her head. âBut thereâs still Korugarians, who werenât there, and weâre rescuing them. Some fled from Sinestro -- but some actually supported him and were driven offworld when he was overthrown?!â She still had some difficulty believing that; every bit of history sheâd been taught on Korugar said the world was peaceful until Sinestro used his ring to conquer and destroy.
â
Sinestro looks around in confusion, trying to figure out what is going on. Heâd been just speaking with Arin about visiting Ungara and showing little Soranik her motherâs homeworld for the first time and how he was somewhere else.Â
He spies a Korugarian woman wielding a Green Lantern ring and is baffled; heâs the Green Lantern of Sector 1417, whatâs going on?
âWho are you? Where am I?â he demands, eyes narrowing under his green mask.
doctorlantern:
Soranik turns to fully face the speaker, revealing the tattoo under her left eye; the ancient symbol for the house of Sinestro. Her eyes widen in surprise; heâs younger, and in green, but sheâd recognize him anywhere. âAnd you didnât bother asking your ring to tell you?âÂ
Sinestro flushes at the womanâs words. Heâs a Green Lantern for years, he knows better! When he checks the rings response to where he is, heâs baffled. How is he on the opposite side of Korugar from where he started? And nothing comes up for who the woman is, his ring almost frizzing from some sort of interference.Â
He stiffens as he notices the tattoo under the womanâs eye.Â
âWho are you?â he demands again. What is going on?
The taunt, she realized, was uncalled for; this wasnât the Sinestro whoâd fallen into the darkness. Not yet -- and perhaps, not ever? âWelcome to the future -- Iâm your daughter, Soranik.â Let him think heâs dead in this era... she thought to herself. Soranik remembered a bit of what Hal had said about one of the Flashâs foes; the knowledge that he was âdestinedâ to turn evil, drove him into that very evil and madness.
Pro: You're experienced and understand my life as a Lantern, so we'd have something to talk about as well. Con: Sinestro would hunt you down and probably castrate you for daring to touch me?
Send me one pro and one con you could see with having sex with my character.
âIt would be almost worth it, just to see the look on his face when he found out.â

Soranik nodded, looking a bit relieved. âIt was a rather strange universe, anyway⌠That Hal got punished twice by the Guardians, and nearly executed on the second time â for obeying the orders that they gave him in the first place?!â
Hal snorted. âIâve been punished more than that. Did they kick him out of the Corps a few times, too?â
⌠What's an AU that you've always wanted?
Questions for the Mun
Ooh, hm, tough because so many things arenât actually AUs in DC hahaÂ
I love horror AUs (like I used to do a Cabin in the Woods verse I adored on one of my old blogs) and evil!muse AUs (like, not just Parallax!Era Hal, but something likeâŚidkâŚif the Forever Evil version of Hal wasnât such a fuckup). Also more basic ones like, say, Hal had a relationship with one of the other heroes before the Justice League formed and they broke it off and now theyâre stuck dealing with it.
Had an idea for an evil!muse GL game. In this history, the Manhunter program got shut down since they couldn't adapt quickly enough to changing conditions in the field. So the Guardians chose people who could administer punishment without mercy on their chosen targets -- but still had enough sense to avoid massive collateral damage. In effect, a Corps of lawful evil executioners.

âItâs that âalmostâ that has me worriedâŚâ A pause. âAnd finding out thereâs at least one version of you out there thatâs â how did Guy put it? Ah yes, thatâs â'bumping ugliesâ with Sinestro.â She chuckled. âOf course, you would never do such a thingâŚâ
Hal gave a startled look. He so did not want to go there with Sinestroâs daughter. âUh, no, of course not. I was just his student.â
Soranik nodded, looking a bit relieved. âIt was a rather strange universe, anyway... That Hal got punished twice by the Guardians, and nearly executed on the second time -- for obeying the orders that they gave him in the first place?!â

âNever thought Iâd be in yellow⌠although I figure most of Korugar expected it to happen,â she admitted sadly. âThey never really got over fearing me, no matter how much good I did with the green ring for them.â
âThey wre wrong to fear you and theyâd be wrong if they believed that ring meant youâd changed.â He gave her a soft smile. âThere are lots of fears, not just the ones the sadist in the Corps rely on. You donât have to torture people to make constructs, I havenât, most of the times Iâve used a yellow ring.âÂ
â"He taught me that much already; concentrate on the fear of my patientsâ suffering, and that will get the ring to make decent medical equipment.â She shrugged. âBesides, I'm the only doctor around here... so at least someone will want me around...â

âNever thought Iâd see you in yellow,â Hal commented, looking her over.Â
Sinestro had told him about Soranik, about the ring, but he hadnât quite believed it. Or, at least, he hadnât believed sheâd ever leave a yellow ring on. He smiled to soften the blow of his words, leaning against the wall beside her.Â
âConsidering the other option was no ring,â he brandished his bare hands, ignoring the ache in his chest when he saw that heâd lost even the tell-tale pale skin around his finger from his own ring, âI canât say I blame you for keeping it.â
âNever thought Iâd be in yellow... although I figure most of Korugar expected it to happen,â she admitted sadly. âThey never really got over fearing me, no matter how much good I did with the green ring for them.â

My Past And My Future

ââŚyou really didnât know?â She looked up at Sinestro. âIt happened when this ring first came to me. I was in mid-operation, and suddenly needed medical equipment that wasnât available. The ring constructs filled the role⌠and my reward for saving my patient was that they stripped me of my medical license and burned my apartment!â She frowned. âOnly when IâŚÂ supposedly defeated you, did the government restore my license.âÂ
âAs for Rayner? Weâd helped one of the Star Sapphires, and she used her ring to show us our soulmates. I saw him in the crystal â he said he saw me. But he didnât. She was dead at the time, and he didnât want to admit her ghost had a greater place in his heart⌠â She shook her head. âIf heâd bothered to be honest, I could have accepted it.â Then a look of disgust crossed her face. âAnd once the Entity brought her back after Nekronâs defeat, they got back together. He started kissing her right in front of me â like I wasnât even there?â
Sinestroâs expression goes bland. Hmmm, what was Zodâs offer again for punishing Jordan? Use of the Phantom Zone? He wonders if the Kryptonian general would mind him flinging Rayner into it for having the gall to break his daughterâs heart.Â
âI see,â Sinestro says slowly, a tight rein on his fury. âSo Rayner lied to you, and then betrayed you the second he could?â
He should have killed the brat instead of having Parallax possess himâŚ
Soranik nodded. âIt wasnât Miriâs fault -- I did confirm with Carol that the Star Sapphires donât see what images form in the crystal. So she couldnât warn me he was lying?â A long pause. âBesides, once Jade figures out he started courting me before her corpse even had a chance to cool...â Another look of disgust; she knew that Kyleâs people had a period of mourning before they sought another love, even if it wasnât as formalized as Korugarian custom. âSheâll dump him. And if he dares come crawling back to me for another chance--â Her hands tightened into fists.

âHow am I?â Anger started to break through her sorrow, an ember flaring up. âHow am I supposed to be when my life is falling apart and itâs founded on a bunch of lies?!â Soranikâs hands flexed, gripping at the rock she sat on and flaring brighter green as her ringâs life-support field protected her from the harsh surface. âFor almost all my life, Korugarâs lied to me about its history, and about you. My destined soulmate? He lied to me all along, and then he abandoned me. But despite all this, I have to be perfect, or Korugar will turn against me â again!âÂ
âWhen did Korugar turn on you?â he demands sharply. How had his sources missed that. His eyes narrow as he registers her entire comment. âWhat. Did. Rayner. Do?â he growls.
â...you really didnât know?â She looked up at Sinestro. âIt happened when this ring first came to me. I was in mid-operation, and suddenly needed medical equipment that wasnât available. My Past And My Future
Sheâd thrown herself into her work â even more so than usual. But it wasnât helping. Soranik was still confused. She had too many questions⌠and the answers that were emerging were disturbing.Â
Soranik landed on an asteroid; it had a lovely view of the nearby nebula, though she only half-noticed it. The flash of yellow light against its blues and purples drew her attention moreâŚ
âHello Soranik,â Sinestro greets, studying his daughter. He can see so much of Arin in herâŚ
âHelloâŚâ she replied, rather more subdued than usual. She knew that to be a loyal Korugarian, she had to see him as the embodiment of evil. But that meant that she would also have to despise herself â and she was tired of that. âWhy are you here?â
âAm I not allowed to check up on my own daughter?â he asks, an eyebrow arching in question. She seems more subdued than normal, the energy she normally exudes missing. âAre you alright?â
âI suppose you could checkâŚâ Soranik shrugged. âThough Iâm not sure what good youâd do. Youâd made your choice about which side youâre on, after allâŚâ Her left hand flicked upward, toward his symbol, before dropping back to her side.Â
âAs have you,â he replies, biting back the familiar feeling of pride at the sight of  Soranik garbed in the uniform of a Green Lantern. Even now, years after his expulsion, he canât help but feel the emotion. His daughter, following in his footstepsâŚ
âRegardless, you are still my daughter and I do wish to know how you are.â
