i think this is a slay ans should lowkey be how they are written in the programs for productions because the impact of hearing āwhat was his nameā and realizing that you as an audience doesnāt actually know his name and then getting to hear it at the end⦠oof
Hey. Happy 10th year of "It's March 1st and it's cheese" since Next to Normal opened on Broadway. It's been a while since I've been here, so it seemed like it was about time I stopped by.
N2N and theatre will always have an important place in my heart, but I feel like my focus has shifted now - though I'm still interested in music, storytelling, and live performance. I'm mostly on Twitter these days (if you want the @, private message me) and most of my tweets are about these things...along with a lot of BTS content, which conveniently combines these interests.
I hope you all are well! I don't expect to spend much time here (though things can always change), but this blog will still be up for now, and I'll try to check messages from time to time. Let me know if you want to keep in touch elsewhere.
Love & light ~
Big Hit Entertainment Releases Official Statement About Recent Controversies
On November 13, Big Hit Entertainment issued a full statement about recent issues. Their full statement reads: āHello, this is Big Hit Entertainment. Recently, there are many different issues surrounding our artists BTS. Our statement is as follows: āThese are the issues that Big Hit has reviewed: first, that our artist has worn a shirt with imagery of the atomic bomb. Second, that our artist has worn a hat with Nazi symbolism in an old photo shoot for a Korean media outlet. Third, that our artists are said to have used flags with Nazi imagery during a performance at a concert in which they participated. āThis is our statement in response to each of those issues: in BTSās promotions as well as the promotions of all our artists, Big Hit does not support war or the atomic bomb. We oppose these things and did not mean to cause harm to the victims of the atomic bomb. There will be no more issues like this going forward. āIn BTSās promotions as well as the promotions of all our artists, Big Hit does not support any form of totalitarianism, including Nazism, or any groups with radical political tendencies. We oppose these things and had no intention of causing harm to the historical victims of these groups. There will be no more issues like this going forward. āThis is our apology for the issues mentioned above. About the item of clothing with atomic bomb imagery, as we stated above, it was not done with any intent, and we have confirmed that the shirt itself was not produced with the intention of causing harm to the victims of the atomic bomb. However, it is obvious that harm may have been caused unintentionally to the victims when the shirt was worn due to our lack of foresight and preparation. We sincerely apologize for potentially causing discomfort through the appearance of our artists being connected with atomic bomb imagery. āAbout the hat with Nazi symbolism being used in an old photo shoot, as we have stated above, it was not done with any intent. The clothes and accessories used in the photo shoot were given to us by the media outlet. Our artists ended up wearing them due to our inability to sufficiently check beforehand and harm may have been caused unintentionally to the victims of Nazism. We sincerely apologize for causing discomfort through the appearance of our artists being connected with Nazi imagery. āHowever, we would like to clearly state that the responsibility for these issues lies with Big Hit, who was not able to fully support our artists. Our artists have to deal with many schedules and site conditions and the responsibility for the above issues does not lie with them. āThis is our statement on the issue of the concert performance: the concert in question was the 2017 anniversary concert of the legendary Korean artist Seo Taiji. The performance in question was built around the social message of criticizing the reality of standardized education. The imagery on the flags was artwork without any connection to Nazism. The message of the performance was to criticize a standardized, totalitarian education system. The performance became an issue because it was said that it was related to Nazism. This is not true at all, and in fact the performance was meant to criticize that kind of totalitarian reality.ā āBig Hit will do our best to reform these problems that have been raised. Our motto is to give comfort and emotion to the world through our music and our artists. It is a challenge for us to consider the many elements that arise from living in an era of diversity and tolerance, but we are doing our best to fulfill that duty. In the future, on the basis of our understanding of not only these issues but various social/historical/cultural backgrounds, Big Hit and our artists will more carefully consider the details of our promotions so that we do not cause harm to people. Once again, we apologize to the people who were hurt by our lack in dealing with these issues.ā āBig Hit will take the following steps in order to resolve these issues: first, we are contacting the atomic bomb victim associations in Japan and Korea to explain and apologize for the problems that have been raised. We have also sent a letter explaining and apologizing for the situation to the Simon Wiesenthal Center [a Jewish human rights group].āĀ

Congratulations to the Seven Music-loving Boys and Their Wings, āARMYā!
The songs, dance, dreams and enthusiasm of BTS ė°©ķģė ėØ energized and gave strength to young people around the world. I congratulate BTS on topping the Billboard 200 with their album titled āLove Yourself č½ Tearā. This is the first ever Korean album to claim the top spot, and also the first non-English album to do so in 12 years.
At the very heart of BTSās outstanding dancing and singing is sincerity. This magical power turns grief into hope and differences into similarity. Each of the seven members sings in a way that is true to himself and the life he wants to live. Their melody and lyrics transcend regional borders, language, culture, and institutions.
Bangtan, which literally means bulletproof in Korean, was born out of the will to protect teenagers from prejudice and oppression. The names of each memberāJin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkookāare going to be remembered for a long time. Thank you to BTS for spreading joy across Korea and the world with your great performances.
May 28th, 2018 President Moon Jae-in
To be completely honest, as a black person I understand why some people are uncomfortable with BTS. Still, after learning about their progress I feel like they have it in them to fully acknowledge and grow from their mistakes, and theyāve already taken steps to educate themselves...I just wish that there was better awareness and communication from them and their team so that certain issues can be addressed directly, especially now that theyāre becoming more globally popular than ever.
If they can censor a Korean pronoun from their latest single for American broadcast because it sounds like the n-word in English, in addition to already acknowledging their cultural ignorance and what theyāve learned, I feel like they can also address other issues before things potentially get worse. Especially given their core message of being a bulletproof vest against prejudice, of loving and being true to yourself. Along with the increasing publicity around racism in the fandom, people are being affected on all sides. Iāve emailed their company about this because I want to see this group fully live up to their name and publicly and directly stand for whatās right. I believe they can.
Congratulations to Ars Nova andĀ Ma-Yi Theaterās KPOP for being the most nominated musical of the season and winning the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding New Musical,Ā Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Jason Tam), andĀ Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical (Ashley Park)
