anyway, mina after a few years moving on on the romantic aspect of her life and trying to get over the fear of losing loved ones (that she developed after the titanic disaster) and being happy with someone again and just finding love again would be quite a big thing and i’m not crying you’re crying

“ sure it will, you must recall i always get what i want. god himself couldn’t stop me from willing you better. ”  surely doctor clarkson, kind as he was, had somehow misdiagnosed her cousin and he would be walking again in no time, moving on with his life as normal. or at least as normal as one could after surviving something as artrocious as war. 

smiling at his request, she nodded as she sat down on the small stool next to his bed and gently squeezed his hand. as if she wouldn’t have come for him, he was practically her brother and matthew would certainly do the same if it were her in his situation.. “ of course i came. but you have cora to thank for it, she send the telegram informing me. so i picked up your mother in france and here we are. i’m rather glad, it’s been a few years since i’ve been back to england. never imagined they’d turn this place into something quite so useful. ” mina had figured she might as well just stay as long as the war went on, god knows most soldiers didn’t get the luxury to have a little break and they sure needed all the doctors available. besides, she’d survived the titanic, why not a war as well?  “ papa send a telegram too, he’s very relieved. he wishs he could come, but the hospital there is overflowing with patients, he can’t leave right now but he’ll come visit you as soon as possible. ”

one day i’m going to make a super detailed headcanon of mina surviving the titanic, from the moment it sank to her husband crushed to death by falling debris to surviving in the ice cold water clinging to an unlaunched collapsiblr lifeboat and being picked up by officer lowe who came back for survivors to the whole passage aboard the carpathia to new york and taking a month to get back to england where matthew picked her up to the empty casket funeral of her husband because his body was never found

and the fucking expectation that she only grieves six months and gets on with it bc honestly how tf does one process a trauma of that size in six months.
