A reminder for those that need to hear it: inappropriate intrusive thoughts are not desires, dreams are not desires, even uncomfortable sexual dreams are not “unconscious” desires. OCD can work in mysterious ways. “testing” yourself to see if you have a bodily reaction to those intrusive thoughts is not and will never be helpful!

another thing is: Intrusive thoughts are not gateways to harmful paraphilias. If you experience pedo-OCD, zoo-OCD and other life draining subtypes, that does NOT mean it is a sign you have a harmful paraphilia.

No, because thats NOT what fucking OCD means or is. These types of OCD are ego-dysonic. They heavily go against your morals, sometimes they are triggered by SA or other trauma, other times it can be brought on randomly.

They are repetitive, UNWANTED thoughts, and people with OCD like this never seek out any abuse material to try and "lessen" the thoughts. Hell, alot (not all) dont even want to watch certain shows that have kids or animals in it to avoid going into a spiral. Thats how much OCD-ers are afraid of these thoughts.

Intrusive thoughts arent desires and they dont mean you have disgusting urges.

Your OCD isn't a sign you are a predator who wants to hurt innocent beings.

Its a sign you have intense catastrophic thinking, that you're afraid to hurt others. Your thoughts dont bring pleasure, even if you have a groinal response, that isnt a sign you like those thoughts.

kinks are by definition paraphilic. paraphilias are "abnormal sexual attractions" and kink such as BDSM has, historically, been labeled as sexually deviant- aka paraphilic. so has homosexuality btw but that's not important right now. sadomasochism is still considered paraphilic. bondage is paraphilic. choking kinks are paraphilic because they can lead to death if done incorrectly. somnophilia is paraphilic because it can include nonconsenting entities, even if there is a way to do it consensually. cnc is paraphilic because it's a rape kink, and even if cnc itself is consensual, obviously actual rape is harmful. objectophilia is paraphilic because it's considered "abnormal" by mainstream society, even if it's objectively harmless. many paraphilias, *including the harmful ones*, have ways to enact them consensually, such as through roleplay between consenting adults.

i agree the definition really needs to be changed and that there should be a distinction for paraphilias that can result in serious harm and or nonconsensual harm. the definition itself is subjective, because who defines what's "abnormal?"

but then you have to accept sadomasochism, choking kinks, and a lot of other BDSM practices are paraphilic due to the extensive harm they can cause, especially if done wrong, and the fact pain and harm is oftentimes directly involved, even if done consensually and safely. you're digging your own hole here.

pro-para is not normalizing abuse, it's advocating for the destigmatization of paraphilias because attractions themselves don't equate to predatory behaviors or beliefs. you can be a pedophile, necrophile, zoophile, etc and understand acting on it is wrong. most do, in fact. minimizing the social ostracization paraphilias face, spreading helpful resources, and just acknowledging that non-offending paraphiles exist, actively helps stop people from offending.

Objectum is based on objectophilia and somno is short for somnophilia lol. They are literally paraphilias.
