i think the best character who is a completely morally reprehensible protagonist is actually Invader Zim because at no point does the narrative, in any way, indicate that we should agree with Zim at any point ever, given his clear tendency to be wrong about absolutely everything and never do anything positive for anybody, and we’re just supposed to enjoy it when he’s funny but also when something horrible happens to him that is also funny, because you know he deserves it anyway.
