Hey, so I’m genuinely curious: has anyone done like wefting on their furbys before? And by that I mean like making hair out of yarn like doll people do, and just. Giving a furby hunks of hair basically because uhhhhh this is probably the only way I’ll be able to make hair/fur for Nicklesmart* this red and I’m wondering if anyone else has tried before?

*Nicklesmart is an entirely DIY furby, I did not take a real one apart. I am making the body from scratch entirely and using a 3D printed faceplate.

Okay I lied, that first one wasn’t actually my first crack at Krita. This one isn’t either, but it’s the earliest you’re gonna get besides the orange!

A WIP of an attempted redraw of the library scene from IT (1990) where they’re very fond of each other. I think I was aiming for it to be part of an AU where they met in the years in-between, but also I just really wanted to put Richie in the ‘Where the hell is Derry’ merch from the book. Someone mentioned that tanktop I think Bill wears on twitter a few months back, and it still lives rent free, lads!

Hopefully I can get back to it eventually, or I’ll take another shot at it. The 22 degrees was a note for myself on how much I rotated the canvas so I could do Richie’s arm without wanting to perish.

Ah, the first thing I ever attempted digitally with Krita from January 1st, 2021.

I have a niche lil thought about Book Richie looking like Hal Holbrook, and this was a very rough first attempt at doing that. Hal Holbrook Richie 100% goes with Anthony Perkins Eddie, this is non-negotiable because I just really like the idea of Richie genuinely looking like Just Some Guy™ whereas Eddie has a presence.

I used a screenshot from his segment in Creepshow as reference to do this dfghj. The power of reference! Though now I feel like I could 100% do better.

February 6th, 2021, done digitally with Krita.

I had an indulgent thought for a cowboy AU (or at least a modernish one where somebody wants to learn to ride and an ex-rodeo rider teaches them) and then I saw the painting “A Tearful Farewell” by Maynard Dixon that inspired this! Basically a kind of study/paint and shadow practice, but Gay™ instead.

This is still a WIP, I’m very excited to get back to it.

Speaking of furbys, the two faces that I’ve painted so far as of May 4th, 2021. The top one is for Nicklesmart and I have since cleaned up the red around the edges. The bottom one is Sexy Dave complete with his glued-in starry eye-chips.

Nicklesmart is entirely done with enamel paint, while Sexy Dave was based in acrylic with the beak and tongue later covered with enamel. I sprayed Sexy Dave with Modge Podge spray, and he retains a lovely shine. These are 3D printed faces, I have not taken any furby apart. I’m just a lil guy following a rabbit hole of an idea.

So in my madness I’ve decided to uhhhhh make some furbys, and did some rough lil concept art for them on March 11th, 2021! Done digitally with Krita.

The orange one is my first boy who is currently the closest to being finished, and his name is Sexy Dave Upside-Downed Maraschino because all that yellow is a fruit-patterned fabric I found. He likes rootbeer and is a very fruity little lad.

The two long furbys are Spaghetti Man (yellow and blue with glasses) and Nicklesmart (horrible clown child who will consume me). Nicklesmart will indeed have a neck ruffle and pom poms down their lil chest. The brown furby is Reechie, who will have a lil blue jacket and a mustache if I can figure it out.

Yes, three of them are inspired by That Clown Miniseries. I’m allowed to be indulgent. Atm I’m just waiting for Reechie’s eyes, and then I need to get some spines and two more faces to paint.

Nicklesmart is only evil because of who they’re based on, otherwise I do believe furbys are kind creatures and I’m very excited to make some from relative scratch.

Some rough concept art I did in 2019 (I think!) of Succoria from Brutal Legend, inspired by the skull of an ancient crocodile I saw in a museum. I included the second one for more of what the initial texture looked like. Ideally she would also have wings, but I haven’t returned to this in ages so I don’t think it’s happening any time soon.

She was supposed to be able to, like. Basically unzip her chest and such. I never got much further than that dfghjj. Done in GIMP.

A funny little orange I did in Krita while trying to learn how it worked in 2020, as well as trying to remember how shading worked. I also forgot to do things on separate layers!

Back in like 2019 I came up with a Persona AU thing with a friend, and this was going to be one of the Shadow selves! I’ve fondly called him the Melting Butcher, as a creature made of wax and skull and teeth. This is probably as close as I’m ever going to get to finishing it, so yeah! Here it is, from 2019 or 2020, done in GIMP and based on a sketch in my sketchbook.

Hey, so you know that thing a while back about digitally painting alongside Bob Ross? Well, lemme tell ya, it is a real treat to do. This is the first time I’ve really sat down and done shading AND coloring in digital, so success??? Thanks, late night brain.

I decided to take a shot at designing Kill Mistress for a nebulous ‘but what if ladies???’ AU, while factoring in what the original character looked like.

I referenced my own doodles of Kill Master and the promotional art with the spiders so much it was ridiculous.

This is what a good portion of an hour hanging out at a hair salon can get ya.
