Someone asked for cat tutorial, so here goes my poor explanation of how I learned to draw kitty
Step 1: steal cat photo and draw down the basic shapes. This is to guide you. Also helps to see where parts line up. Notice how the bottom of the ear lines up with the corner of the eye!
Step 2: just continue copying the image, as detailed as you like. It doesn’t have to be perfect, this is just for practice. Repeat step 1. and 2. with different reference images. This helps train your muscle memory.
Step 3: stylize! Once you have practice a bit drawing semi-realistic from reference, this is where you can use those shapes you’ve learned for more stylized work.
Stylizing is a lot easier when you’ve learned how to simplify by breaking things down into shapes!
This stage is great for experimentation! Mess with the shapes to create different face personalities. Give your cats anime eyes, funky colours or hair poofs! Go wild with your own ideas!
