Background Tutorial
requested by ion4ever. sorry it took me so long to do this for you but hopefully I was of some help?
Notes:
I use CS6, and this was mostly done with default hard round brush at around 50% opacity or higher, 100% flow, and size pressure on. I made some random brushes for the greenery by modifying the default ones.
always use a large canvas. I go about 3000px x 3000px.
with enough practice, painting backgrounds like this will be a fairly quick affair. this one, for example, took about 30 minutes? it’s just a matter of time/experience. :)
So yeah, good luck doing backgrounds, and have fun!! :D

Precious Sinnamon Roll
you're such a wonderful artist!! can you please post a tutorial on how you do the shading on digital drawings? i wish i could be at least half as good as you one day :')
thank you sweetie! ;___;
this will be the simplest tutorial ever bc i’m a lazy bastard but here goes
i work on photoshop cs5 and usually start out with a A4 300 pixels/inch canvas
1) draw a picture. like so:
2) create a new layer below the line art and pick a photoshop standard brush called charcoal large smear and adjust the size to whatever you like (i prefer to keep it quite small). make sure you have pen pressure controlling opacity too
3) pick a grey. i usually go for a medium grey bc i’m a coward and afraid of contrast. smear that shit all over the place. try to cover as much area as you can without lifting the pen bc it will make the end result smoother (it took me three “strokes” to do this)
4) then go to filter > texture > grain
with my canvas size i usually have the intensity at 60 and contrast at 0 but you can try different intensities etc. the point is to make it look kinda like watercolor or ink on paper
TA DAH
the grain filter gives the brush strokes that kind of ink soaking through paper effect, and is also the reason why you wanna keep the number of strokes on a single area to a minimum, bc otherwise it’ll pretty quickly end up looking like shitty paper looks when it gets too soaked and the top layer starts to peel off and it’s just not pretty (if i need several layers of strokes in a single area i usually just create new layers for them and apply grain to all separately before merging)
5) then just erase what you don’t need, and i usually adjust the brightness (image > adjustments > brightness/contrast) a bit bc as i said i’m a coward who’s afraid of contrast so i tend to make everything very light
AND YOU’RE DONE, VOILÀ
matias salutes u
hope that made any kind of sense lol i’ve never made a tutorial of any kind before
