“I’ve never needed surgery so…” She drawls, crossing her arms. “You can scatter, kid. I haven’t got the patience to deal with you. It’s cold as fuck, and unless you wanna buy something,” She repeats, “I’m not interested in casual conversation, okay? Maybe if we see each other again and I’m not workin’, you can take me out for a beer, but right now?”

She looks around the empty street - yes, it seemed empty but there were a couple cars parked along the side of the road just a few blocks away, that could be John’s waiting.

Until he figured this place out, he couldn’t just be throwing money around on things. “Alright. Fine.” He said dismissively. He glanced at her, setting his hands back in his pockets. He could understand needing to do your job. Plus, this chick seemed to know what was up around here, so maybe it would do better to not piss her off just now. “...See ya around.” He said, finally backing off to give her space. Maybe at this point he could find those other hookers Joke was talking about.

No fucking way... [Alex narrows his eyes at this Jessica. In his universe, Jessica died, along with a shit ton of people he knew, so this was something of a startle when he seen her.]

The sound of the others voice pricked up her spine, and set a weight in her gut. No… no she didn’t want to do this. Not now. Then again, she never wanted to do this. After a moment of no response, save for her tensing up, she turned to face the other slowly.

Jessica wasn’t really sure what to do in this situation. Should she run? Attack him? Talk to him?

"Wh-what?" Thought she was dead? No she didn’t die. Or at least she didn’t think she had. Everything in those few months was far too fuzzy even after all the time that had passed for her to know for sure. "N-No… I’m not dead." She pressed her lips into a thin line, her mind derp in thought about the whole situation.

“Well, clearly.” Alex said dryly, walking closer to her. He was still kind of wary, though, knowing that Jessica would probably want to kick his ass for nearly getting her killed. “Take it that you wouldn’t wanna buy any more Zydrate from me... After all that.” He said, with a tone as if he assumed what he said was true. As if everybody was supposed to know what Zydrate even was in the first place.

Jack was stirred from the nap he’d never intended to take in the security room by the sound of the camera’s alarms, and the distant sound of the turrets winding up to prepare to fire. Had some dumb tourist adventuring ‘off the beaten path’ wandered into the hotel again? He would have thought the wall of brush and weeds and vines would be enough discouragement to keep people away, yet somehow they still arrived from time to time. The blaring alarm and glowing red lights of the security cameras and the security bots usually scared away anyone who made it inside before they had a chance to make it to the turrets. But the alarms were blaring, the bots were dispatched, and the turrets were winding up. 

Who could be so dumb as to not run straight back out the door at the alarms alone? Or at the alarms plus the bots? He checked the cameras with a yawn, peering at the shaking man on the screens. With a gun that flimsy he could take down maybe a bot or two, if they arrived individually, but that wasn’t how they were programmed. He needed to patch a message through the security camera’s speaker before blood was spilled. He grabbed the microphone wearily.

“Kid. Turn around and leave before you get hurt- this system is not loaded with blanks.” The sound quality wasn’t the best, but given what he was working with, it wasn’t too terrible. At least he got his message across.

Alex heard distant whirring. What the hell- Oh, and there goes an alarm. “Didn’t know anybody lived here!” Alex protested at the voice speaking to him. He growled, “Jesus christ-” He wondered if he went out the door and slammed it shut if the ‘security system’ wouldn’t shoot him? What the hell? Were they robots or something? What was that whirring? Who cares!? Alex began to turn, gun in hand, but spoke loudly, hoping the person would hear. “Well, turn it off!” He’s kind of a bossy weird guy. Maybe it would be worth it to run, but Alex thought maybe convincing him to turn it off? “I got lost! I wasn’t even trying to find this place! Why the hell are there so many trees here?” He complained, but then panicked and ran off towards the woods as fast as possible.

[ Alex Kralie still wasn’t used to being outside of the city he had lived all his previous life. Where were the huge cemeteries? Where were any dead bodies in general? How was a guy supposed to sell Zydrate if there weren’t any corpses lying about? Matter of fact, he hadn’t even found anybody to even sell the six vials he had on him, let alone need any more of the painkiller drug. He huffed. In summary, he was lost, had no money, and couldn’t find anyone to sell to. He growled, kicking a rock aside as he wandered about, just walking aimlessly… That was until walked past, and then, approached the forest. His brow furrowed slightly as he stared into the woods, feeling something was incredibly off about it. Not only because he was unfamiliar with forests in general, but it was just this weird vibe he got. Like it was… alive? Alex didn’t know what the hell he was doing, but whatever, he was getting his gun out into his hands. Just in case.]

Khapra’s pupils contracted, the smile on their face falling. Sekmet and Bastet lifted their heads from their napping spots by Khapra’s head and stomach.

They glanced around. Too deep inside the Whispering Forest to see the outskirts, Khapra had to trust the air against their skin. It felt foreign. Not the dry, lukewarm desert air of Night Vale.

The Forest had changed its location against Khapra’s will, but that was not what caught their attention now. There was company approaching, and the bristle standing Khapra’s arm hairs on end meant this company did not mean well.

“To the willow, you two. Get Tefnut,” Khapra whispered and patted Sekmet’s haunches. The two felines responded instantly and fled.

Khapra rose to their feet, retied their shendyt more securely, and with the trees’ aid they ascended to the canopy. No matter how much The Ka-Rohl’s runes writhed, Khapra would investigate this new person without its ‘assistance’.

Alex was honestly lost before he seen this forest, but this weird feeling stirred up the static voice in his head. ‘There’s something in there.’ The static spoke. He frowned at both the intrusion of his thoughts, and at the fact the weird voice that spoke to him was warning him about a thing in the woods... That meant it must be bad, right? He shifted, taking his normal gun out of his bag, having it in his hand just in case. “....Hello?” He asked. He put his hand in his pocket, along with the gun. Out of sight, but still in his hand.

“The hell is Zydrate?” She asks, crossing her arms. Her suspicions were confirmed then, seemed the kid was a drug dealer. “Probably go hit up the other street girls, if you’re looking for buyers. I don’t do drugs.” Joke tells him. She rubs her arms a bit against the chill of the cool air around them.

“Look, you’re pretty much scarin’ all my potentials away, kid. I can’t get a bite if you’re here eatin’ up my time. I don’t mean to be rude but here I go, either buy somethin’ or shove off to the motel. I’m tryin’ to make a livin’.”

“Zydrate. You know. Kills pain. For surgeries?” He said it as if everybody was supposed to know what it is. Like preschoolers would have known what it is. he gave something of a glare, his hands still in his pockets. Usually, he would give one of the scalpel addicts a free shot to get them hooked on it. Though, if he only had 6 vials.... and she says she doesn’t do drugs. Alex frowned a bit at that. “Oh, yeah? Scaring all these customers.” He gestured to the blank street in the dark.Right now he was just being an asshole for the sake of it.

Rachel nodded in return, selecting the direction of town and setting off at a leisurely pace. “Small towns are easy to lose, especially in a place like this.” She’d been all over one half of the country in her travels, people from Haugsdale sure knew how to spread out since 1920. “Generally its good to visualize the general direction you came from when taking turns and such. At least that way you always come out close to where you went in.”

She stretched lightly, her elbows popping inside her leather jacket. She briefly wondered why she didn’t kill more people outright, but answered her own question. She was no longer killing with purpose but for the addiction, chemicals were a strong thing and at the time she wasn’t craving bloodshed.

Not town...” He half asked, half spoke. he began to walk through the trees and towards not the town, but instead he was sort of making his way towards the graveyard...

“...Thought you were dead.” He said, an air of dismissal in his voice, as if he really couldn’t have cared less if she had actually died or not back then. He paused, as if mulling it over a moment. “How the hell did you get out of that one...Huh?” He sounded almost conversational, as if he believed he didn’t have a huuuge part in how she had almost died.
