Lovely Runner 선재 업고 튀어 (2024) Dir. Boo Sung Chul, Yoon Jong Ho, Kim Tae Yeong – Ep. 8
sol's parasocialism towards sunjae is so pure and emblematic of what fandom should be like. she views him as someone who got her through an incredibly dark period in her life, so she wants to repay it by being devoted to him as a fan. she literally doesn't care about any personal entanglement with him and just wants to admire him from afar.

Actually, I've been your fan since your debut.

Doctor Slump 닥터슬럼프 (2024) Dir. Oh Hyun Jong – Episode 4
The last person to reach that point gets flicked on the forehead. Deal? DOCTOR SLUMP 닥터슬럼프 (2023)
I waited eight long years for you. But we are just going to cuddle? I really had my hopes up.
i never say this, especially for a slice of life kdrama, but samdalri is really set up to have a season 2. it doesnt even have to be a full 16 episodes—12 is honestly enough, maybe even 8 or 10 :0
there is so much potential to explore the side characters, but also to show how samdal supports yongpil and his dreams when he supported her throughout this entire show (i like the idea of yongpil being like “samdal is my dream” BUT THAT IS BESIDES THE POINT LOL). there has been complaints about how it almost seems like yongpil is too in love with samdal, but in the context of the story where samdal’s career and life pretty much falls apart, it makes sense for him to be the major support in the plot to complete her character arc of finding herself again. so i think it would be really nice to see it reversed and samdal supporting him in the hypothetical second season.
that also means we get to explore the side relationships that they teased throughout the whole show. i like that we really focused on samdal and yongpil and didnt give more than necessary screentime to the side characters (as many other kdramas do and it ends up being filler that no one cares about), but it almost seems like we didnt get ENOUGH.
our favorite haedal x dolphin boy NEEDS more screentime, and i really want them to explore more of the relationship of a family unit with hayul if they end up dating. also just haedal and training to become a haenyo—i wonder why they gave us that information so late, as well as hayul wanting to be a swimmer! that is such a good plotline on its own!! because then we also get to explore the relationship of ko mija passing on her beloved career to a daughter, and i think that is super intriguing.
i know jindal and her ex are somewhat comedic relief, but they also need to have a proper resolution? because he seems to really care for her, and it would be nice seeing him become someone she can rely on and eventually fall back in love with. i’m not sure which route would be better: him leaving his rich life or him completely inheriting the company, but both have a lot of potential. i think it would have to focus more on his character development rather than jindal’s, but i don’t mind seeing how their relationship plays out because it’s such an interesting dynamic and kind of unfortunate for them the way they broke up if they really loved each other. in fact, there’s also the minor relationship between him and jindal’s dad if his own relationship with his father isn’t the greatest
and i cannot belieVEE they introduced us to gyeongtae and eunbi AN EPISODE BEFORE THE FINALE?! AND THEN DROPPING THE “it’s been twenty years since his first love” LIKE HELLO?! THE POTENTIAL?! once again, another ship for comedic purposes, but it’s almost kind of sweet and i want to see more!! especially the classic “i wasn’t loved for me, but i can be myself around you and you don’t mind it” type of trope!! it’s very city girl x country boy too HAHA
i also just want to see more of eunu and see him and his wife and daughters!!! LET ME SEE HIM AS A DAD BUT ALSO LET THE OTHER CHARACTERS INTERACT WITH HIS KIDS!!! and imagine A LEGITIMATE CHA EUNWOO CAMEO that would be so FUN!!! especially if his daughter has a crush on him HAH
there is so much potential to expand on these characters for a couple more episodes and i really think they deserve it :’)
welcome to samdalri ↳ shin dong mi as cho jin dal
i just feel like i have to talk about this because i really love how they handled sangtae’s character. he was clearly written to be the main antagonist that’s keeping yongpil and samdal apart, and even to the point where holding onto this grudge for over 20 years sound almost unreasonable. however, i think it’s a great portrayal of grief and how it can ultimately consume you.
everyone deals with grief differently, and i saw a great post explaining how ko mija and yongpil handling the grief around sangtae made it even worse for him. the plot kept circling back to him being too stubborn to ease up on the hate that i began to wonder if they were going to be able to solve it well enough. but episode 14 delivered because while it was almost getting frustrating seeing sangtae relentlessly not listening to everyone around him, by adding the fact that due to his failing vision and memory, he’s afraid of letting go of this grief. which really ties in to the beginning of the episode between yongpil and samdal, when yongpil was saying how he’s afraid of forgetting samdal. by showing how similar yongpil and sangtae loves, makes it hard to truly hate him (even if he’s a stubborn old man) because our main character is exactly the same way.
but i especially love the way they wrote samdal talking to him. it tied it up so neatly that i can’t help but be impressed. by having her say word for word what he told bu mija a long time ago, after he visited her at the temple, made it seem like it was bu mija telling him that. and i think it was something he really really needed to hear. the actor did an AMAZING job at portraying the realization that he really doesn’t hate samdal, and he was too caught up in his grief that he didn’t realize other people were suffering too. so when he ran after her and seeing yongpil standing next to her,,,, bro TEARS
i just really appreciate how they handled his character because he’s not a bad person—he’s in pain and he doesn’t realize his actions are hurting people he cares about because,, he just happened to really love his wife. and the catharsis of having samdal being the reason to free him from his grudge when he was the one that deliberately kept our main couple apart just shows the intricate relationships of these families but how, at the end of the day, they still care for each other
Hey! I'm too young to be a boomer. It's not just old people who act like boomers. Someone like you, who wants everyone to follow their opinions who thinks they're right about everything. That's a boomer!
WELCOME TO SAMDAL-RI (2023-2024)
You can't kiss me! The neighbors might see us.
“Why do you want me to put these on? They're useless. You're so clueless. You need to put them on so cars don't honk at you. They know you can't hear them. So they'll drive around you. Looking cool is a nice bonus."
Twinkling Watermelon 반짝이는 워터멜론 // Episode 1
TWINKLING WATERMELON (2023) | Ep. 10
Twinkling Watermelon is an excellent, excellent show. 9.5 stars out of 10. The actors are UNTOUCHABLE. It’s well written for the most part. Sweet without being saccharine, emotional without being melodramatic. Here are some Spoilers and honest criticisms under the cut.
I adored the story and am so glad they didn’t have him prevent his father going deaf. The whole journey they have Eungyeol go on to stop the accident was really a journey about living for himself and not taking in burdens that don’t need to be taken on. His family was never a burden, as he very sweetly tells his brother at their reunion. That’s good development and a good arc. But I wish a few things had been more apparent.
1. What about Cheongah finding out about Yi Chan? I wanted to see this and how she could have helped him adjust and power through the hardest times when he was accepting being Deaf.
2. How is Eungyeol going to adjust to not knowing anything about this new timeline? He’s practically lost about people and relationships. And he’s now got people running after him like he’s Jungkook, yet he knows nothing about how he got there. AND we just have to accept that he’s going to live his new life without any memories of it. It’s like a weird reverse amnesia trope.
3. Is the warmth and creativity of their previous home life gone, sacrificed for the richness and coldness of that mansion? It would be GREAT if we could have seen how Cheongah and Yi Chan infused that sweetness (the lights! the art!) into the mansion. Plus, why would Cheongah stay in the place she was abused?
4. My biggest gripe is that they short shifted us the reunion between older Yi Chan and Eungyeol. I’ve been imagining that reunion since the beginning, but all we got was a minute or two. It was really disappointing. This is what made me think 9.5 instead of 10.
Could have fit this in if not so much time was spent on Eun Yoo (sorry babes, but I just didn’t care that much about that) and the flashbacks.
